Chapter 31
Helion rose from the sofa precisely at ten o’clock. Following his movement, the paper that had been resting on his face slid down, fluttering to the floor beneath the sofa.
“Did you sleep well?”
Edward picked up the paper and neatly placed it on the desk.
He suffered from an obsession that everything had to be perfectly organized, aligned in rows and columns. Of course, he didn’t consider this an illness. He simply thought of it as a meticulous personality.
“I wasn’t lying down to sleep in the first place. I just put the paper on my face because I didn’t want to hold it.”
“If that’s the case, shouldn’t you have been reading the words? But it looked like you were staring at the same page for an hour straight.”
Cheche grumbled, glancing at the clock. It was now a shift change. He had, to the very end, perfectly filled his working hours. He had told Katie, “How could we leave early even if you came?” but inwardly, Cheche had secretly hoped to leave early. Yet, Helion was still Helion. He didn’t give them a single minute of leeway.
“You weren’t sleeping, nor were you working. If that’s the case, why not just go back to your bedroom quickly?”
“Don’t say that, Cheche, it hurts. I was trying to work, in my own way. If you’re going to blame anyone, blame that excessively adorable Kitty.”
“What in the hell does that even mean?”
Helion merely smiled faintly without answering. That night, the cat went to his bedroom. It was a situation where any man couldn’t help but entertain lewd thoughts. Of course, he knew full well. She had gone to the bedroom for a strictly professional reason. But he wasn’t going to do anything, and a man’s thoughts were his own damn freedom, weren’t they?
In his imagination, Katie was lying on the bed, her pants undone, just like that night. He couldn’t f*****g concentrate on the words, consumed by the image. Katie’s flushed face just floated, rosy and tantalizing, above the white background of the paper.
‘Gods, I don’t know how long it’s been since I felt this kind of raw, carnal desire.’
Helion smiled loosely. He didn’t know what kept arousing him, but he was definitely getting hard just looking at Katie. The subtle hostility that remained unhidden even after she became his knight. Her sharp gaze. All of it excited him.
It was strange. He certainly didn’t have a fetish for getting turned on by people who hated him. Yet, here he was, getting aroused, even developing a new kink. Perhaps he already knew the reason. Those eyes, that face. Those lips that only uttered proper words were the problem.
Katie resembled his benefactor. She was strikingly similar to the image Helion had imagined every night, wondering what she would look like if she were alive.
This was him getting turned on by his benefactor. Just as he had gotten hard every night, imagining the adult face of that child in his dreams, he was now getting hard by superimposing his benefactor onto Katie.
A prince getting off on a substitute. It couldn’t be more pathetic. But what could he do? That was the extent of his benefactor’s meaning to him.
If he didn’t cling to something, he couldn’t fill his empty heart. If he didn’t search for something even remotely similar, he wouldn’t feel like living in this boring world.
“How did I end up like this?”
“Your Highness…? You’ve always been like this. Always lounging around, not working, just fooling around.”
“Shut up, Cheche. Any more, and I’ll want to rip your tongue out.”
Helion sat on the sofa for a moment, resting his chin on the armrest. It wasn’t like he hadn’t been like this before. Even he couldn’t understand his own heart.
