Chapter 105
How could I not have noticed until it got this bad? How can I be so self-absorbed, Marie Alphrose!
“What happened?”
As she hurried forward, she saw the chief attendant standing there, his face deathly pale. Knights surrounded the area as well.
Things were clearly far from normal.
“Don’t tell me… Russell has gone into a rampage—”
“It is not as critical as it was last time, Your Highness the Crown Princess! Please, calm yourself.”
The chief attendant practically wrung his hands in panic, seemingly afraid that Marie might faint from the shock.
But it was a lie.
She could feel it clearly, as if she could see it with her own eyes—the violently surging aura filling the air.
“I’m going in.”
“…Y-Your Highness, you cannot.”
“Why not? Isn’t this the same as before?”
If so, that meant he would have to endure that agony alone.
Although Marie had lived most of her life as an incomplete Omega and was not particularly familiar with heat cycles, she knew all too well how unbearable it was to endure such suffering alone.
And if something happened to him—
My husband. My beloved.
“You’re afraid it will put a strain on me.”
“Y-Your Highness…”
“I don’t even need to ask. You’re saying nothing and refusing to let me in because you’re worried that it might affect me in my condition. He didn’t ask for my pheromones either, did he? He tried to get through it on medication alone because I’m pregnant, and that’s what caused this, isn’t it?”
“But His Highness gave strict orders. Forgive my boldness, but this situation is different from last time. Time will resolve the issue on its own, so please, Your Highness.”
“And in the meantime, he’ll suffer. I…”
Marie quietly wrapped her arms around her swollen belly.
Because she was pregnant.
She knew that now that she had entered the second trimester of pregnancy, even their lovemaking had become cautious and restrained. He must have taken all of that into account and tried to endure his rut alone, only for things to escalate into this.
“I trust my husband. You know as well as I do that not every Alpha’s rut turns into something monstrous.”
“But if, by some chance—”
“No.”
Even if the man who could feel every one of her emotions through their imprint had lost his reason to instinct, he would never hurt her.
That certainty existed beyond even an Alpha’s instincts.
The attendants nodded in agreement, yet none of them could fully hide their unease. The fact that no one could bring themselves to tell her to proceed was proof enough.
“I’ll take responsibility. And I won’t go in recklessly.”
“Then… do you have a plan, Your Highness?”
Perhaps they had truly been worried about their lord above all else, because hope immediately brightened their faces. Marie nodded.
Just in case. If the worst should ever happen.
Had Russell suggested it because he had imagined a day like this?
Marie recalled the words her husband—the man now beyond those doors, no doubt groaning in pain—had once spoken.
‘In case I ever hurt you, Marie.’
‘Russell? What nonsense are you talking about?’
‘Alphas and Omegas alike are slaves to pheromones. When I imagine a moment where I might lose my reason and harm you… I can’t bear it.’
‘Your Highness.’
‘I want to create something capable of knocking me unconscious with a single gesture from you. So, Marie, permit it. Give me your word, and I’ll have it prepared quietly.’
‘…There will never be a need for something like that. But if it will ease your fears, then…’
‘Thank you, my Crown Princess.’
So the day has finally come when it must be used, Russell.
