Chapter 176
If there had been something off about him, that might have explained it. But that wasn’t the case. No matter how well someone hides or disguises themselves, their true nature tends to slip through in words and actions—yet so far, nothing about him had raised any red flags.
He was consistent with Jaha. Polite, affectionate. Not particularly cruel to others, either.
They say you can judge a person’s character by how they treat those beneath them.
Rikanan, true to his noble upbringing, was deeply steeped in class hierarchy—but that didn’t make him harsh toward his subordinates.
At the very least, he was far from the tyrant-like characters often found in the novels Jaha used to enjoy—the kind who would behead someone for displeasing them or punish the slightest mistake without mercy. Had he been that kind of arrogant, morally bankrupt man, she would’ve run away without a second thought.
Jaha believed that good people made good partners.
A man who is cruel to others but tender only to me—that kind of setup is sweet only in fiction.
In reality, a man who beats others will eventually raise his hand to me too. A man who treats others’ lives as worthless will see mine the same way.
He might treat me well now, as if he’d give me the world, but what happens when his feelings cool? It’s only a matter of time before that cruelty turns toward me. That’s why you should be with someone who’s kind by nature.
From that perspective, Rikanan was flawless. And not just that—no matter what standard you measured him by, the result was the same.
He passed every test with ease. So why couldn’t I feel at ease? Why did this unsettling feeling linger, as if something was wrong?
Unable to find an answer, the days passed one by one.
Exhausting myself in his embrace until I collapsed into sleep, only to wake again in the circle of his arms—those days repeated endlessly.
“Mmm…”
“Good morning, Jaha.”
A deep voice settled softly against her ear. As Jaha squirmed to free herself, he tightened his arm around her waist and pulled her back in. Annoyed by the stifling sensation, she furrowed her brows at the tight, foreign pressure rising from below.
This man… a total repeat offender. I clearly told him to pull out before we slept!
“Rikanan.”
“I was tired after finishing and fell asleep right away. When I woke up just now, it was like this.”
His shameless reply, paired with a charmingly arched brow, left her speechless.
“Then pull out now.”
“It’s cold—I don’t want to leave. Let me stay inside where it’s warm.”
“If you’re cold, why not make yourself some custom clothes instead of doing this?”
He chuckled at her sarcasm. The way his eyes softened, his lips curving into a smile—it was so unfairly handsome that the irritation prickling inside her melted away in an instant.
I lost to that damn face again.
The moment Jaha smiled with that thought, the flesh buried inside her gave a thick, deliberate twitch.
What the—?
Startled, she glanced down, then back up. His gaze had already darkened, fixed intently on her. Recognizing the warning signs from experience, Jaha froze.
“…Uh.”
“Hey, I just woke up and don’t even have the energy to lift a finger…”
When she protested with just her eyes, he cupped her cheek in his large hand and pressed a kiss to the bridge of her nose.
Mwah. Soft lips sucked lightly at the tip of her nose before tapping against her eyelids, then showering her cheeks, earlobes, forehead, and the delicate skin beneath her eyes with feathery kisses.
It wasn’t a s****l gesture—more like playful teasing, or more accurately, a coaxing plea for permission.
The ticklish brush of those lips made Jaha squirm in protest, but soon, the tension drained from her body.
Noticing her silent surrender, he slid his hand down to her chest. Fingers sheathed in white gloves traced circles around her areola, deliberately avoiding the n****e itself. The teasing motion sent a shivery thrill through her, and Jaha let out a soft “Nngh…” as her back arched faintly.
“You’re already hard. And I haven’t even touched you yet.”
He eyed the pert peak with a smug, satisfied expression, like a well-fed beast. In contrast, Jaha flushed with embarrassment.
“It’s because you keep… teasing around it… Ah—!”
“You even whimper so sweetly.”
He pinched her n****e between his fingers, whispering tauntingly,
“Why are you already wet down there? Do you like having your n*****s twisted?”
“Th-That’s not… ngh… it…”
“Your body’s so easy to read.”
Grasping her b****t, he wedged the stiff bud between his index and middle fingers, rubbing it up and down. The friction of the silk gloves against the sensitive nub sent sharp jolts of pleasure-pain through her, and this time, she could feel herself gushing—enough to embarrass her further.
Jaha’s face burned crimson.
He found her reaction endearing yet puzzling. He was always hard around her, but he’d never felt ashamed of it.
Was he just shameless? Or was this woman unusually prudish? Maybe both.
