- Chapter 75 - The Frustrated Elf And Violetteโs Lost Memory Part 1
โVy, a guest is coming over so I want you to behave and stay in your room.โ
โWhat? But I wanted to go to the magic store!โ
โDidnโt I say that you could only go out once a month?โ
โBut brother goes out everyday!โ
โWell, your brother has to mingle with society after all.โ
โI want to mingle too.โ
โYouโre too young for that, Vy.โ
Violette puffed out her cheeks while glaring at Syran, but it did not seem to work.
โIt used to be thrice a month beforeโฆ You wouldnโt even let me call over my friends to the house anymoreโฆโ
โItโs just for now. Please bear with it.โ
โI canโt! I hate you, father!โโ
Violette stuck out her tongue and ran down the hallway.
Syran sighed and hunched over again as he walked away.
Hydrangea tilted his head at the conversation between the two.
It seems the times Violet could go out have been limited even before her cat transformation curse had been discovered.
Even children and noble women do not go out that often, but once a month is too little.
Could it be that Syran is just a bit too overprotective?
Iโm not sure, but I might be missing a point here.
Hydrangea debated whether to follow Syran or Violette. However, he was inside Violetteโs dream. He did not know what would happen if he strayed from her, so he decided to follow Violette instead.
The Northpole mansion was quite different before.
First of all, the hallway is carpeted and there are a few more servants.
How did it get to that state?
I know Tritoma demanded money from them, but I donโt think it would create such a drastic change.
Putting the thought at the back of his mind for now, Hydrangea looked for Violette.
It feels strange walking around inside a memory.
Not only donโt I have any color, but itโs also hard to get used to seeing everything in gray.
Since he was inside Violetteโs memory, it was only natural that he could not use magic either. And so, he searched for her by checking the rooms one by one.
While searching, he found a maid carrying Violetteโs belongings. After following her, he peeked into what appeared to be a room, but it was empty inside.
As he wandered again, he heard two maids talking.
โWhere is Lady Violette?โ
โShe is in Masterโs study.โ
โAgain? I even told you not to let her in there too much.โ
โI canโt help it. She could neither go out to play nor call her friends over. Poor girl.โ
โWe canโt do anything about it. It’s the Master’s way of bringing her up.โ
โBut stillโฆโ
โIโll try talking to her.โ
โVery well, but please do not force her to go backโฆโ
โI know.โ
The maid seemed to be heading to Syranโs study where Violette was said to be, so Hydrangea followed them.
They arrived in front of a room with heavy double doors. The maid knocked on the door while calling Violetteโs name.
โLady Violette! Lady Violette!โ
No response. Is she really in the study?ย
The maid continued to call her name without checking the room.
โYou cannot read the Masterโs books of magic. Lady Violette?โ
โ…Oh, alright,โ a faint voice replied.ย
Hydrangea was only able to hear it because he was an elf.
The maid sighed deeply and left the study.
Since he now knew where Violette was, he tried to turn the knob. However, he could not touch it and only gripped empty air.
Perhaps I could pass through the door without opening it. And so, he tried to reach for the door and tried touching it.
His fingertips passed through without touching the door.
He took a step forward and passed through the closed door and successfully entered the study.
Syranโs study was a dimly lit, stuffy room surrounded by bookshelves on all sides.
Violette was crouched in a corner of the room.
She was racked with sobs as she cried without a book in hand.
He could not understand why Syran would lock his daughter inside the house.
Hydrangea knelt in front of the sobbing Violette and patted her head.
โW-who!?
Violette seemed to sense Hydrangea interfering with her memories after all.
โWhoโs there!?โ
He was torn whether to answer or not.
โIf you do not answer, I shall call on my father!โ
She remained strong-willed even though she was in tears. Typical Violette, Hydrangea thought.
โOr have you come to fight me?โ
โNo, Iโm probably weaker than you.โ
โW-who are you!?โ
โ……โ
What should I say?
Mind interference-type magic is only supposed to let a person look into anotherโs memories. Iโve never heard of this kind of contact.
โAre youโฆ a spirit, or a fairy?โ
He was closer to a fairy since he was an elf. However, he did not want to influence her any further so Hydrangea posed as another beingโ the first creature that popped out of his mind at that moment.
โI am a cat.โ
โA c-cat?โ
โIndeed.โ
โWhy canโt I see you?โ
โThatโs because I live in a different dimension.โ
โI donโt quite understand but you must be a magic cat, right?โ
โA magic cat?โ
โYes, ordinary cats cannot speak after all.โ
โOf course.โ
Kids sure have a great imagination.
He seemed to have convinced her in a good way.
