Chapter 2.21
***
Around the time Levi successfully persuaded Ayla to stay at the Heron mansion.
Luge Ryner, at a mansion far from the capital, was spending his daily life as usual, unaware of what was about to happen.
Knock, knock—
“Master Luge. May I come in for a moment?”
When a polite voice was heard from beyond the bedroom door, the man lying on the bed woke up.
“Yeah.”
The name of the man who answered with a disinterested voice was Luge Ryner. He was the younger brother of Baron Ryner, who had died in a carriage accident.
“Thank you for making time, Master Luge.”
“Right. What is it this early in the morning?”
“There is an urgent matter to report regarding the Academy.”
“Since you’re waking up a sleeping man to report, did something special happen to our Ayla?”
Luge was a man who was lazy by nature and didn’t really read things like newspapers. He wasn’t diligent enough to quickly grasp the events happening in the capital, but when it came to Ayla, his nerves were on edge.
This was because what kind of daily life Ayla was leading at the Academy was a very important matter to him.
‘It’s been quite a while since she entered the dormitory, so by now she must be going crazy from loneliness, right? I hope so.’
For Luge, the best development was for Ayla to develop a mental illness.
That was because he could then claim to be the guardian of his abnormal niece and withdraw her share of the inheritance, which was tied up in the bank, in her place.
Despite having a considerable amount of money, throwing Ayla into a campus dormitory where everyone ignored her was an act based on such calculations.
‘She was a weak-hearted child anyway, so if she’s cut off from other people, she’ll break down soon.’
In fact, wouldn’t it have been a stroke of genius that he didn’t provide her with attendants even though he could afford to, unlike other noble children attending the Academy?
Ayla would think there was no money because of the installment payments for the items the Baron couple had bought before they died, but in truth, he had done it simply to isolate her from others.
Living alone in a dormitory and having to realize every day that she was an orphan wearing nothing but rags would cause her mind to collapse quickly.
Luge tightened his lips, which were about to form a mean smile, and listened to the head butler’s report.
However, what came out of the head butler’s mouth was so different from the story he had expected.
“I heard that demons appeared at the Academy yesterday and the dormitory building was damaged.”
“What? What about Ayla?”
If Ayla were to die before graduating from the Academy because of the damn will his brother left behind, he would not be able to inherit the fortune.
His eyes became bloodshot at the thought that the Ryner family’s inheritance, which had almost become his, might be donated to some monastery.
To such a Luge, the head butler carefully added.
“Fortunately, Lady Ayla is safe. They say she avoided disaster thanks to the heir of the Heron family inviting her to their mansion.”
“The heir of the Heron family helped Ayla?”
Luge, who naturally thought Ayla could not escape being a loner, let out a hollow laugh at the unexpected news.
“I heard everyone calling her a defective product, so I wondered how incompetent she was, but the person who is actually the heir of the Heron family is hanging around with a girl living in a dormitory?”
Ayla, who was just stupid and naive, and the Heron’s defective product. It seemed like a fairly fitting combination.
“Funny. Since both of them are probably being treated as impurities of the Academy, I guess they developed some sense of camaraderie?”
“That is…….”
“What, did they become best friends in the meantime or something?”
As Luge sneered with a venomous face, the troubled head butler barely managed to continue.
“Actually, it seems the friendship between the two is quite deep, Master Luge.”
“It can’t be that much.”
“The thing is…… it seems the Heron side has helped Lady Ayla so she can file a lawsuit against the bank.”
“Wh-What did you say?”
In an instant, the laughter vanished from Luge’s face as he listened to the head butler’s report.
