Chapter 2.23
“I should ask Lady Heron to have a cup of tea together later, as a thank you.”
When Frid spoke, Lance wore a meaningful smile.
“You should be careful. Is she not the woman who loved you so passionately that she even collapsed?”
“I told you, teasing like that is rude.”
Frid restrained his aide’s joke, but for some reason, he didn’t feel bad.
Until now, he was a person for whom service using Holy Power always came first, so he didn’t think anything even when he heard that someone harbored romantic feelings for him. But for some reason, when Levi Heron was mentioned, his mood was different than usual.
‘The story about her collapsing because of me is probably a lie spread with exaggeration by mischievous people.’
Frid ordered the knights to disperse and began to walk slowly through the Academy.
There was a reason why he couldn’t rest even though the aura of demons could no longer be felt in the Academy.
‘I definitely sensed the powerful aura of a demon at least Transcendent-grade.’
Was it because his training was still insufficient? He couldn’t tell where that unpleasant and sticky Demonic Energy he felt at that moment had originated from.
No, actually, he was even confused as to whether that level of Demonic Energy had truly occurred.
Since even the Holy Knights, whose senses were usually sharp, said they felt nothing.
Anyway, the fact that he hadn’t even found its whereabouts, let alone subdued the creature, made Frid feel unsettled.
He was even more concerned because many of the demons recently discovered around the capital had been in an unknown state of excitement.
‘Seeing that there is nothing even though I’ve been looking around the Academy for several days, did I really imagine it?’
To be certain, Frid decided to patrol one last time.
Although the situation had calmed down quickly because the Holy Knights were deployed, and even though it had been only a few days since the demons appeared, the Academy was full of energy without a sense of crisis.
Among those, the leisurely conversation heard from beyond the bushes made Frid chuckle.
“It’s a bit of a shame the picnic was canceled because the demons appeared. It’s a place where one can catch a glimpse of how the social world will flow this year.”
“Indeed. It’s fun to watch the subtle tension flowing between people.”
“Still, it was quite unexpected that the heir of the Heron family didn’t run toward Lord Frid’s table, wasn’t it?”
“Shh. She might hear you. I saw the Heron family’s carriage passing through the main gate earlier.”
Frid, who was just about to patrol the place where the carriages were stopping, thought it was a good opportunity.
If he met her and said he heard about her catching the demons and suggested having a cup of tea, it could serve as a thank-you greeting as well.
However, what Frid discovered in the area where the carriages were stopping was not just the Heron family’s carriage.
“Damn it, why is it so wide…… dammit!”
A middle-aged man who didn’t look like he belonged here at all was hiding in the shadow of a carriage, acting irritable.
His face was haggard as if he were someone who had stayed up all night after losing money at a gambling house, but his eyes alone were fierce, giving off a bizarre feeling.
Just as Frid had read, the man, Luge Ryner, was feeling a sense of devastation as if he had lost his entire fortune.
This was because he was about to be stripped of Ayla’s share of the inheritance, which he had considered his own since his brother died.
It hadn’t been his property to begin with, but since he was certain that money would come into his hands, his hands were trembling with rage.
‘My money…… if only that money had come safely into my hands, I could have lived in luxury until I died.’
He was on his way after hearing the news that Ayla had filed a lawsuit against the bank with the help of the Heron family, and that Ayla, who had won the lawsuit, would be able to receive the inheritance before graduating from the Academy.
From the central shopping district where the bank was located until he reached this place, Luge muttered only one name.
“Levi Heron…….”
His chilling eyes soon fixed onto the stopping Heron family carriage.
