Chapter 2.29
Whether he found it ridiculous even thinking about it again, Demian let out a short laugh.
Well…… rather than the evaluation being bad, it was very positive, so his mood had improved slightly.
It was better to hear that one was good at something than to hear that one was bad at it, no matter what it was.
Demian, who had straightened his clothes and buckled his belt again, poured a strong liquor and handed it to Levi.
Then he leisurely drank the liquor in his glass and tested her.
“You see, this kind of pattern appeared on my body right after that incident that day. Do you know anything about it?”
Levi could instinctively tell that misanswering or creating room for misunderstanding at this moment would be a huge mistake.
“I am sorry. This is the first time I have seen the pattern.”
“I suppose so. That’s why you described something else after hearing me mention a dragon.”
“……Ahem.”
Since it was right after Levi had made a huge slip of the tongue she would never have made if she had known about the pattern, Demian assumed for now that she wasn’t lying.
Since there was another being that could have left such a trace on his body, there was no reason to press her with unreasonable suspicion.
Levi also seemed to know that fact well as she continued speaking casually.
“I am cautious about saying this, but I suspect it might be the work of the demon that appeared that day.”
“Is there anything to be cautious about? Anyone can see it’s a hideous mark related to a demon.”
He was a man whose complex was his lack of holy power, so she thought he would fly into a rage if she brought up the topic of a demon, but Demian was surprisingly calm.
‘He only reacts sensitively to groundless slander—it seems he handles situations like this rationally.’
Thanks to confirming that Demian was just prickly and not a reckless tyrant, Levi was able to relax a little and continue speaking.
“The demon that appeared that day was at least transcendent-grade. It might have had some special ability that ordinary demons don’t possess.”
“Seeing how it completely vanished without even being caught by the holy knight order, it might be even higher than transcendent-grade.”
“…….”
“As I thought, was getting touched by those tentacles the problem?”
Demian said in a flat voice.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to uncover exactly why this had happened to him.
However, the more important thing for now was to settle the situation.
“Seeing how you didn’t notice anything strange until I showed you, it seems even the Lady, the heir of Heron, can’t sense the Demonic Energy.”
“Yes. I don’t feel any Demonic Energy at all.”
Levi, who answered the question, realized the premise behind his question.
“Can you feel the Demonic Energy, Your Highness?”
“Not constantly, but occasionally.”
“What kind of characteristics does the Demonic Energy you mentioned have?”
When Levi couldn’t bring herself to honestly ask back, ‘Is it the kind of Demonic Energy that makes the body aroused and turn one into a beast as soon as it’s inhaled?’ Demian burst into laughter.
“What the Lady is expecting is correct. The exact same kind as the Demonic Energy we were affected by back then.”
“…….”
“What. Are you going to follow me around when the time is right?”
Levi looked at him with a sulky face as he denounced her as the world’s greatest lecher.
Demian let out a smirk as if he were secretly enjoying her reaction.
“Since you said it was good, I just wondered. Anyway, you’ll have to help me erase this pattern.”
“…….”
“I don’t know why you’re making such a reluctant face. Isn’t House Heron the Sword of the Imperial Family?”
That’s true, but…….
“I suppose Lady Heron wants me to tell the holy knights that I was attacked by a demon and ended up with a tattoo like this on my body.”
For a moment, the red eyes she met were sharp, as if they would dissect her and read the inner thoughts she had hidden inside.
In that split second, Levi swallowed hard and rolled her brain to see if there was a way out.
‘No matter how I think about it, the reason Demian was attacked by the tentacles emitted by the lust demon was because of me.’
If things had gone as they should have, she should have protected Demian at the cost of her life so that he wouldn’t even be scratched.
However, that day it was Levi who was protected, and it was Demian who stood in front of her.
In other words, she couldn’t ignore him, since he had been attacked by the demon because of her.
Poking her conscience was one thing, but Demian wouldn’t sit still if she did such a thing.
‘He could discipline me saying the knight of Heron didn’t do her job, or it would be enough for him to hold a grudge and then cut off my head first during the rebellion.’
99 ways Demian could ruin her life flashed through Levi’s mind.
