Hesed somehow felt he understood the meaning behind those words. His lips trembled.

“Normally, I wouldn’t have been able to touch a body protected by divine power.”

That’s why they had tried to use those who had crossed over from another world as vessels.

“But do you know when a person falls into the deepest hell and shatters their own divinity? It’s when they are betrayed by those they love and hold dear.”

Several White Tower mages flinched at those words. Hesed’s pounding heart plummeted. Irina, too, had fallen to the deepest depths of hell.

“And those who couldn’t overcome their greed reported every move of this vessel to my faithful servant, Devrant. Thanks to him, it was easy to lure her into the trap.”

“What? Who? Who were the ones who divulged intel on our Irina?!” Scarlet shouted angrily, glaring at the mages around her.

“Hahaha!!”

The fragment of the god could see the new cracks of emotion forming. No one knew who was friend or foe anymore.

Suspect. Rage. Hate.

The fragment of the god burst into laughter while delving into Irina’s memories.

She loved the West and the White Tower. That’s why she accepted the position of Tower Master, knowing it was a stifling and heavy golden crown.

The position was harder than she had imagined, one she wanted to throw away, but couldn’t do so carelessly.

She endured as much as she could. This was enough.

It was when she thought this that the suspicious times began.

The reappearance of the dark sorcerers threatened the peace of the continent. The magic towers had to cooperate more closely than ever.

Hesed was a clever and outstanding mage, but he was also a disciple she had the duty to protect. She believed she could pass on this position to him after they had eradicated the dark sorcerers.

Irina, now completely engulfed in darkness, couldn’t understand how things had gone so wrong.

“Senior sister, no, Irina!”

Hesed, feeling like his heart might burst, called out her name with all his might. Scarlet, Vine, the mages of the White Tower, Hisran, and Siord saw the desperate look in his eyes, more desperate than a fish out of water seeking to return to the sea.

“I would never betray someone I love more than my own life!”

This was not how he had envisioned confessing his feelings. He had imagined that when Irina accepted his feelings, he would first inform Scarlet and Vine, delighting in their shocked faces and accepting their teasing remarks.

Where had it all gone wrong? Why were his intentions to bring her happiness always twisted, thwarted, and ultimately causing deep wounds?

“I loved being the Vice Tower Master because you were the Tower Master.”

Because it was a position where he could share some of the burdens on her shoulders.

“So without you, the White Tower and the West mean nothing to me.”

“No, Vice Master!”

“L-Lord Hesed!”

Voices of shock and confusion erupted from all around.

“Ah, that crazy bastard!”

Hisran sighed, rubbing his forehead.

Regardless, with Irina now in the hands of the enemy, it was up to Hesed to lead the White Tower mages. How could he say something so demoralizing?

That guy’s definitely not fit to be the Tower Master. The White Tower was doomed without Irina.

Hesed, who had made such a shocking statement that even the heads of other towers were concerned, didn’t glance around. His eyes were solely fixed on Irina.

“I will definitely get you back, Senior.”

The mana within Hesed surged, drawing energy around him.

In the blink of an eye, a sharp wind spear formed. Another wind-based spell enhanced the spear’s speed dramatically.

“No!”

Contrary to everyone’s expectations, Hesed aimed his deadly weapon at Devrant, not Irina.

Just as Hesed, appearing to have lost his senses, swung the wind spear to tear Devrant apart, Irina stepped in front of him as if daring him to try.

“Go ahead, try killing this woman first.”

Hesed hesitated for a moment before swinging the spear again, and Devrant shouted in a panicked voice,

“Be careful!”

Had Irina not ducked her head slightly, Hesed’s spear would have caught the necklace around her neck. Only then did the god’s fragment realize that Hesed had been aiming for the red crystal necklace from the start.

“You’ve got quite an eye!”

“Thinking about it, a fragment of a sealed god couldn’t have directly possessed my Senior’s body, protected by Magia’s blessing. It must have used a medium.”

Hesed spoke in a defiant tone, his expression smug and insolent.

“Oh, that damned punk…”

The White Tower mages were flustered, but Scarlet, Vine, and the two Tower Masters were not surprised at all. In fact, they found this behavior much more familiar.

“Arrogant brat! I’ll make sure you die by the hand of the woman you love!”

Despite her sharp voice, Irina couldn’t approach Hesed. A curtain of water formed a barrier, preventing her from getting close, as if ready to wrap her up the moment she neared.

“Come to think of it, I owe a big debt to you, Tumor. It’s uncomfortable to stay indebted, so let’s settle it cleanly today.”

Siord, who manipulated his mana similarly to Hesed, stepped forward as reinforcements.

“Lord Tumor!”

Seeing this, Devrant tried to assist with one hand.

“Hey, buddy. Where do you think you’re going?”

Scarlett and Vine quickly blocked him.

“The crime of tormenting our junior can only be paid with death.”
