Chapter 159
“Sleep more.”
“Is it… raining?”
From beneath his hand, her red lips pouted as she asked about the identity of the sound she had detected.
Caught. Though a bitter taste swirled in his mouth, Cassis answered without batting an eye.
“You can sleep soundly and wake up later.”
The sound of rain pouring down with enough force to easily collapse even a small hill was not ordinary enough for that. When the awakened Evelyn stirred and tried to sit up from her lying position, Cassis gently pressed her down.
“Sleep.”
“This isn’t the castle, it’s a log cabin.”
In her mind, the act of continuing to lie around and sleep when rain was falling heavily in this outdoor place was extremely dangerous. The castle had waterways, moats, and sewers, but this place didn’t. Though she had woken up in the middle, thanks to sleeping a lot yesterday, her eyes didn’t even sting.
“I know.”
This was the moment when their futile argument was about to begin. Though such times weren’t common, it was inevitable that Evelyn’s worry would suddenly surge up, not knowing much about Cassis’s abilities.
“There’s even a stream in front… R-right. You said there’s even a river if you go further that way. Rivers are fine as long as you don’t approach them, but streams can overflow quickly. Water is scary.”
Cassis didn’t respond and lay down beside her, propping himself up at an angle on his arm. Far from taking any measures, Evelyn grew impatient at his leisurely behavior.
“Lord Cassis!”
“What should we do? This house behind the stream is dangerous, so shall we go outside?”
Rumble!
As soon as his words ended, Evelyn’s head shot up at the thunder that rang out loudly. She looked ready to bolt right out of the house, but the arm of the man who had caught on immediately stretched out and forcibly pressed down her body that was trying to get up.
“It’s fine, so lie down and rest more.”
“Right, we decided to return by spatial movement this morning. Does… doesn’t magic become difficult when it rains? Thunder rumbling means lightning has already struck, so new problems might arise. Oh, but riding horses back wouldn’t be very easy because of the rain either.”
Though he hadn’t told her anything, she had hit upon the correct answer. Usually she acted dull, but now… What to do? Instead of answering, Cassis only stroked her hair.
“I’ll tell you when you wake up.”
“I’m completely awake…”
Rat-a-tat-tat!
The sound of rain drumming on the wooden roof intensified like the sound of galloping horses. It was just then that he thought he should have blocked the sound in advance before she woke up. Having no choice, he urged her to put on a robe over her nightgown and took her to the living room.
When he opened the inner shutters, he could see the continuous irregular sight of raindrops fiercely pelting down, forming droplets on the glass window before sliding down. Cassis left her alone as she breathed fog onto the window and drew something with her finger, pressing firmly, and opened his mana.
The result was not good.
‘…It will rain for two days without stopping.’
Since there had been less rain than usual in spring, causing a bit of drought, it wasn’t bad that rain was pouring down before the full rainy season began. The problem was that they were trapped here, quite far from the castle, having been on a leisurely picnic outing under the pretext of patrol.
Should they force their way back?
Evelyn’s weak and easily chafed thighs would have to endure quite a long time sitting astride a horse soaked by rain. Moreover, even if they pushed through the downpour, their speed would inevitably be slower than when they came. He didn’t think she could handle it well enough, and since it was a decision he had finished making yesterday, he decided to give up cleanly.
When the situation isn’t very good, waiting quietly for a reversal is also a good method. Cassis instructed the sylphs to deflect more water from this area so it would flow far away, then went to her.
“Are you done watching the rain?”
“It doesn’t feel like it will stop easily. Even though I can’t hear wind sounds, it must be heavy rain.”
He called her over and led her to the sofa, then took out a blanket and had her wrap it around her body. Even though she was wearing thin nightclothes, with the robe and now wrapped in a thick blanket, she wriggled around inside.
“It’s not… winter.”
“Hehe, that’s not my concern either.”
Whether she liked the laughter that scattered softly from his lips, Evelyn also laughed several times in response before completely relaxing her body.
She would be getting sleepy soon. So that she who had awakened because of the rain sound would soon be conquered by drowsiness, Cassis held his breath without carelessly moving even a finger. Eventually her head slowly tilted, but unfortunately the direction was opposite to his side, not toward him. Unable to just watch that sight, Cassis reached out his hand and turned her toward him.
“Mm…”
As long as a nymph exists on earth, she will belong to an elf for eternity. Recalling the prophecy given to them long ago, Cassis moved the light brown hair stuck to her cheek and tucked it behind her ear.
Her nodding head dropped and leaned completely against his shoulder. Once he judged that she had endured in this state and was completely lost in sleep, he planned to lift her up and carry her back to the bed they had bolted from earlier.
He wasn’t in a hurry. He should wait patiently and thoroughly for the prey that had entered the trap to completely relax and lie down with peace of mind.
Go ahead and sleep more. Fall asleep, Evelyn.
