Chapter 238
“She told me to wear the wings at night if possible. And always use them indoors… Oh! Right, she said powder comes off these wings, and it’s good for me.”
Evelyn’s face, talking about powder, was pure innocence itself, and Cassis’s lip muscles twisted strangely. He had expected it, but what could he say to her, who knew nothing? His expression, however, was merely a mix of scorn and a hint of admiration directed at Nike, who had cunningly pushed him towards her.
A king completely defeated and entangled by two nymphs—it was utterly laughable. Shouldn’t he perhaps step down from his throne now and live serving one of them?
His gaze, once again dreaming of a secret tryst, swept over her lips, which had stopped their delicate movements.
“You bumped yourself.”
“It doesn’t hurt….”
The wings that had lifted her to the ceiling glowed without a single feather tip damaged, yet her body showed scattered marks stained a light pink. Cassis pressed his finger gently around her elbow and then exhaled.
That too was the mischief of the powder the wings had liberally scattered. At this point, it seemed plausible to consider the wings of an ancient fairy as sentient beings with their own will.
I should seal them away deep inside as soon as they detach tomorrow.
With the medicine confirmed to have gone down Evelyn’s throat, he had one task remaining. Each time his gaze touched her, her neck, b*****s, and lower abdomen rose and fell with rapid breaths, tempting him. There was no way he could just leave it alone.
However, he needed to tell her a valid reason beforehand, didn’t he?
“There’s something you don’t know. If that powder gets on you, most beings will go into heat.”
“What?! Oh, what do I do? Because of me…!”
Horror filled Evelyn’s panting eyes, and she frantically touched his face with her hands. Her trembling fingers, too weak to exert force, tried to brush away the fine powder particles.
He gently took her hand and whispered,
“You didn’t know, so it’s not a sin.”
“Cassis…”
“Even if you did, it wouldn’t be a sin.”
His arm, cutting her off before the honorific ‘Lord’ could leave her lips, wrapped firmly around her back. She felt the wings fluttering behind her, but Evelyn squeezed her eyes shut, savoring the moment of the kiss.
Lately, he’d been romantic whenever he had a chance. Beyond giving necessary advice or criticism, the man who had been so taciturn now frequently opened his lips to please her, whether with kisses like this or with embarrassing sweet talk. Each time, Evelyn’s love for him bloomed wide, and shy new flower buds hastened to sprout, fanning that love.
Today, too, it felt like a tiny jasmine flower for him was blooming somewhere.
Sliding his saliva-moistened lips over her cheek and jaw, Cassis rose and headed for the bed, naturally carrying her in his arms.
Evelyn, belatedly realizing the powder’s harm, tried to stop him.
“W-wait a moment. When the wings fall off tomorrow, we can go to bed. Tonight, I’ll sleep on the floor or the sofa. Please? Oh, no. You said strange powder keeps coming from the wings, didn’t you?!”
“It’s too late.”
With just a flick of his finger, he could have gotten rid of the heavily clinging powder, but Cassis didn’t tell her that.
There was no reason to blame Nike, who had so cunningly handed him over to her. They were both the same. For their own purposes, they would commit anything without batting an eye; fundamentally, there was no difference. Just like someone who had dwelled long in Jupiter.
As he laid her on the bed, her flat stomach twitched, as if she were about to start hiccuping. Suddenly, he recalled the very first day he had placed her in the leaf nest he made with his own hands. He’d chided her for not forgetting such a trivial memory, yet he was just the same.
His long, straight fingers touched her lips, pressing them firmly shut.
“You went to all that trouble to transform into an ancient fairy, so I want to give you your reward.”
“……”
“Now, touch it.”
He brought her hand to cup the front of his pants, and a jolt of surprise was felt from both of them. From the man’s arousal, not quite ready to be unleashed, and from the owner of the delicate hand beyond the fabric.
Cassis deliberately inhaled the powder-laced air deep into his lungs. He wanted to push away the power of the azure essence that cleansed his blood and mind, even for a moment, but the World Tree, which usually overlooked most things, seemed unwilling to forgive this one.
Is it a reminder not to forget the king’s crown?
Cassis let out a faint, sarcastic chuckle, then gave up cleanly. Instead, he intertwined his fingers with hers. Her slender fingers tried to slip away, unable to bear the ticklish contact, but a subtle pressure was applied.
“Don’t run away.”
“I… I have nowhere to go from here….”
“Exactly.”
He also liked the short exchanges they frequently had. Enjoying the unnecessary back-and-forth, he held her hand and gently rubbed it up and down. The feeling of her fingertips brushing against the well-sewn seam was utterly exquisite.
