Chapter 65
Brax decided to keep his thoughts to himself and instead tried a gentler tactic. Without a word, he brought out the gifts he had carefully prepared for his only sister. True to elven tradition, the offerings included fragrant leaves with a rare, soothing scent, seasonal tree fruits that were nearly impossible to find, a generous handful of gold dust, and a pair of leather shoes that fit Mel’s feet as if they had been made just for her.
Mel seemed particularly pleased with the lightweight, comfortable shoes, as she quietly put both on and dangled her feet with a prim expression.
“H-hmph. Thank you.”
“I trust you. You’ll behave properly from now on, without causing gossip, right?”
“…Hmm. I don’t know.”
Brax escorted the grumbling Mel to her home.
“Mmm, ahh!”
“Ha… hoo, ha, mmm…”
“Uhnng, right there. I, ahh, spank my bottom a little… Ahhh! But don’t scratch your nails…”
As their path happened to pass by the vast delphinium field near the watchtower, they couldn’t avoid the embarrassing moans that constantly emerged from beyond it. Even though their kin had lived this way for ages, witnessing and hearing such things in the presence of family was far from his temperament.
How nice it would be if everyone followed the example of His Majesty the King who devoted himself to abstinence, and only made efforts during the seasons when children were needed.
On his return journey, the sounds and presences from behind the abundantly blooming delphiniums were extraordinarily boisterous. Between the moans stickier than syrup and what seemed like thrashing about during lewd acts, the intact flower stems bent and broke with successive snapping sounds. If they were going to do this, they might as well plant tall reeds instead. Though Brax himself was not ignorant of pleasure, he ultimately found himself frowning.
‘Nothing has changed here. It’s remarkable that the delphiniums still bloom despite that commotion every year…’
This resistance to change was both the advantage and the great disadvantage of the elves. He carefully examined beyond the severely shaking delphinium stems.
Could it be thatPolyxene and Cassis, the current King, were entwining their bodies here?
If asked to name the most distracted among the border guards Brax had accompanied this time, everyone would choosePolyxene . Even Leya,Polyxene ‘s follower. Considering that being a border guard required attentiveness,Polyxene was barely hanging on by a thread.
‘…Not here.’
Naturally, there was no trace ofPolyxene and Cassis. Above all, if the King had been playing here, the metal ornaments and accessories he wore would have caught the eye immediately, reflecting and glinting in the sunlight. Brax left the beautiful flower field flowing with lewd sounds, secretly relieved. At times like this, he couldn’t tell whether the resilience of delphiniums was a good thing or a bad thing.
Leaning against a column in the empty agora, he sighed.
“Phew.”
He had firmly instructed Mel, so at least she wouldn’t deliberately torment the innocent nymph. The subject of his concerned sighs wasPolyxene rather than his close blood relative.
In Jupiter Castle, there was a strict rule. It was that all elves residing within the castle must possess exceptional abilities to continue living there. Nymphs, of course, were exempt.
Recently, the regulations have changed so that even those born of noble bloodlines are unconditionally required to leave after reaching a certain age. This was unavoidable since many elves desire to live close to the World Tree.
For this reason, Polyxene must have undertaken the Guardian training to prove her abilities, but to Brax, the leader of the guides, she was nothing short of a troublemaker too difficult to properly accommodate. To be precise, she was a walking disaster. Polyxene didn’t really pull herself together even during training, recklessly boasting in front of elves not from the castle that she was practically the king’s fiancée, and ended up receiving penalty points from him for it.
‘At least no one at the castle would believe that nonsense, so she should stay quiet for a while. No matter how much she blathers on, it will only expose her own lies, so is she planning to stubbornly follow the king around?’
Brax’s deep concern was scheduled to arrive right after the Aika Festival. Should he take Polyxene to the next training session or not? In terms of innate ability, Polyxene was far from failing and was above intermediate level. However, she showed no intention of focusing, which made him uncomfortable.
If only the king would declare Polyxene as his lover and sternly tell her to train properly… That wouldn’t be bad either. At least she would listen better than she does now?
The strikingly handsome and intimidating appearance of the particularly aloof and unapproachable king, and the beautiful Polyxene armed with unyielding confidence. His intuition told him those two probably wouldn’t be a good match.
Brax shook his head and got up. He had already sorted things out with the one he had been meeting before leaving this place, and was planning to go whisper sweet words of love to a new lover. Like a true elf. The wholesome thoughts from earlier were merely wishful thinking; he couldn’t live that way.
