Chapter 66
After finishing his work and returning much later, Cassis discovered her lying motionless on the bed and called out softly.
“Evelyn?”
There was no answer. Even when he deliberately made footsteps to signal his presence, it made no difference. She was so deep in sleep that she wouldn’t notice if someone carried her away.
She’s sleeping well.
A satisfied smile formed on his lips. His gaze deepened as it swept over her—from her disheveled hair without a single pin, to her pretty lips that seemed to be chewing something in her dream, down to the back of her camisole that precariously covered the slender curves of her body.
When his gaze finally managed to stop at her hips wrapped in a white petticoat, a formidable warning fell.
“Evelyn. I’m sure I made myself clear? What did I say I would do if you slept sprawled out on the sheets without properly covering yourself? If you catch a cold, I’ll forbid you from leaving the palace for ninety days.”
“Mmm…”
As if agreeing with his words, a brief, weak nasal sound flowed helplessly from her sleeping throat. Was she about to wake up? Her faint response urged on the hastily boiling thirst, telling it not to stop.
“I warned you that I would pounce on you, but since you carelessly ignored my words, I have no choice. You need to be thoroughly taught a lesson so you won’t do this again, don’t you?”
Having grandly received the returning guardians and meticulously directed preparations for the Aika Festival, he was much later than usual. Additionally, for the first time since Evelyn’s arrival, the World Tree had summoned him for an important conversation, so the time he returned was close to dawn, past midnight.
In other words, he was well aware that Evelyn had waited for his return until she became too tired and fell asleep. However… in a situation where she had awakened his desire—which should have faded with the setting sun—what could he do?
That innocent face that made a mockery of his iron resolve to draw a line between elves and nymphs.
That delicate body that, the moment it was glimpsed, tempted his ten fingers to spread like a spider’s web, ceaselessly reaching out to touch it.
Her plump lips parted slightly with each breath—even that tiny motion was enough to make his c**k strain to fullness. At this point, it was mostly her fault. A nymph who dared seduce an elf without fear deserved to be punished mercilessly.
“…Evelyn.”
Cassis hesitated before calling her name again, like a naive fairy coaxing a sleeping Evelyn.
She had once warned him—playfully sprawled across the bed, lazily drifting off—that if she dozed off like this, he shouldn’t let her be. But he had no intention of abruptly waking her every time. No, he just wanted to give her one last chance, knowing full well he’d only exhaust her further, leaving her so deep in slumber that even being carried off wouldn’t rouse her. Not that his whisper was anything more than a breath, light as a drifting blade of grass.
The truth was, he wanted to hold her—any excuse would do. And with no intention of hiding his dark desires, he moved closer.
The opulent drapes and jeweled ornaments adorning the chamber—fit for a king—clinked faintly. Anyone else, sensitive to sound, might have stirred awake at the noise. But Evelyn, unfortunately, remained lost in deep, dreamless sleep—proof she hadn’t rested so soundly in a long time.
Finally near enough, his face hovered just above her shoulder as she lay on her stomach. Her back rose and fell with each breath, tempting him to touch.
So warm.
He hadn’t hesitated to raise the bedroom’s temperature for her sake. The air was thick enough to feel stifling to him, but Cassis, ever the resilient elf, adjusted swiftly.
His next target—the soft curve of Evelyn’s cheek, flushed with sleep, her lips slightly parted as she murmured something unintelligible. The plush, rounded swell was so inviting he wanted to pinch it. Feeling his pants grow painfully tight with desire, he pressed his cheek against hers. Already their second intimate contact.
“Evelyn?”
This time, the call wasn’t willful—it was pure instinct. He hadn’t meant to speak, but his throat opened on its own, his tongue moving without permission. Had she heard her name whispered so close? Cassis felt a flicker of panic, even though he was the one who’d called for her—and then, as if on cue, her body shifted, turning to face him.
Her pale face, slack with sleep, completely filled his vision. Lips like delicate pink petals brushed faintly against his cheek. And then—
