Chapter 94
He ignored the thing in his pants that had misunderstood and was pointlessly stiffening again.
“Later.”
“Later when? I can’t just leave it like this—I have to wash my hands too.”
“Ah—!”
Before Evelyn could protest, he grabbed the soiled negligee by its lace hem and yanked it off in one swift motion, groaning. The soft, bare skin unveiled before him… It was something that could swallow him whole—every last strand of his golden hair down to the tips of his toes—and still have room for more. Yes, she looked like a white vessel of desire. Even with his eyes closed, he could trace every curve of her body from end to end with ease.
“Huu.”
The scene he’d just imagined—that beautiful, flat white belly, drenched in his seed…
‘Disgusting. For the sake of preserving vitality, it’d be more effective inside her. Why the hell would I want to spill it outside just to satisfy my own hunger?’
Though this morning had been unavoidable, he swore firmly to himself that he wouldn’t do it like this next time. But then, as if to shatter that resolve, the naked Evelyn leaned softly against his shoulder. The palm she’d once criticized as rough linen now rubbed against his arm, and by the World Tree, it felt as smooth as soap gliding over skin.
“Give it to me…”
“Hm?”
What, this thing still stubbornly trying to push through my pants?
A considerable amount of time had passed—he really should go now. But Cassis wasn’t the type to flinch even if the crown atop his head clattered to the floor. Lately, he often found himself thinking about dragging his carefree predecessor back to the throne, just to relieve himself of this crushing responsibility.
Of course, Evelyn was not a nymph who would confuse him with such pathetic words. Her fidgeting hands tried to gently pull away the edge of the negligee he was holding, but her attempt to reclaim her clothing was feebly blocked. In the end, the negligee gripped by both their hands was just being pulled taut in the middle for no reason.
“Don’t set it aside to wash yourself, just leave it. No, wait, Undine? Take it. Clean Evelyn’s hands too.”
As soon as he spoke, the spirits that had been silent began to move. Having lost her negligee and with water floating in the air coming to wash her hands, she spread her fingers as if ticklish.
“Ah….”
“Stay still. Hmm, that’s good.”
He found a handkerchief, hastily wiped her hands, and lowered his head. Then a smell markedly different from before contaminated his nose. The unmistakable scent of night flowers with only a subtle and faint, slightly fresh fragrance mixed in, where he had spilled. Strictly speaking, not a single drop had gotten on Evelyn’s skin, but it was undeniable that he had made the subtle scent permeate.
Evelyn pulled a corner of the unstained sheet to cover her body. Her attempt to shrink her shoulders to cover her chest area appeared cute to his eyes, but he couldn’t keep staring with a distracted mind. Because he shouldn’t let his lust revive and overwhelm her after staring so intently.
He gave her instructions quite plainly.
“I’ll be back, Evelyn. You can move now, so if you’re bored, walk a little inside the bedroom. Don’t overdo it, so don’t go too far.”
“My arms and legs are fine.”
“I understand, so rest.”
“Take care.”
Her cheerful statement about her legs being fine was, frankly speaking, absurd. As if that was something to boast about. However, Cassiss left the bedroom without further conversation. It was because he felt their dialogue, bouncing back and forth like a small ball, would never end otherwise. This trivial pleasure—her chattering and him responding—was like an ant lion’s pit.
While walking out toward the entrance of the Hall of Glory, he sensed spirits fluttering toward him. All sorts of voices could be heard bustling: what can we help you with, Evelyn’s breathing is stable, since her condition has improved. Should we bring in fragrant flowers, if she feels too cold should we tell the Salamander to come out from the fireplace and crawl under the bed? Cassiss bundled all those words together and dealt with them in one go.
“Just leave it.”
The lingering scent at the tip of her nose would suffice for now—at least until he returned. He didn’t need any other fragrance clouding her just yet.
The moment he stepped outside, he was met by Laocon, who had been waiting.
“Your Majesty!”
Sir Iel was nowhere to be seen. Unlike Laocon, these days, even when he was present, his mind seemed filled with other thoughts. But Cassis didn’t reprimand him for negligence or test him. The reason was obvious.
It must be because of that scheming cousin of his—the one who’s always been fond of underhanded tricks. Having roughly guessed the situation, Cassis asked.
“Did you see Sir Iel this morning?”
“No, but the festival is about to begin. Surely he’ll show himself soon?”
This assumption wasn’t wrong—though things were different from before.
When the whispers of the World Tree had immediately revealed the culprit’s identity, Cassis hadn’t been surprised. The arrow lodged at the fallen woman’s feet wasn’t one he recognized, but that was hardly unusual. It must have been a ruse to conceal the true perpetrator.
