Chapter 122
Ashtel, with her innocent eyes, peered at his face, and Payne, now coming to his senses, spoke to her.
“So, you’re the one who broke the curse?”
“Ah, yes. Sis Juvia helped me cast the spell. With our magic, it could have made you corrupt even further, but she said if you pray to Katzel, everything will be fine.”
Ah, prayer.
Payne had completely forgotten about it.. He had faithfully prayed to Katzel without missing a single day from dawn until the owl’s call at night. However, ever since he was taken by Ashtel, his prayers had come to an abrupt halt.
It felt like black ink had suddenly dropped into a once-clear, pure stream.
Payne realized, with a heavy heart, that both his body and mind had fallen. He took a deep exhale.
“Prayer…”
He should pray… but right now, it feels impossible.
The impious demon, Ashtel, was watching him, and the response his body had shown earlier from their kiss made it even harder. How could he pray to God in this state?
Payne covered his forehead in frustration.
“What’s wrong? Does your head hurt?”
Ashtel’s question echoed in his mind. He knew it would be like this for the entire time they were stuck in this little cabin.
Right now, her loose-fitting dress covered her body, but who knew when she’d suddenly change and pull out something odd like a strange piece of lingerie.
Payne had realized that, no matter how much he tried to fight it, he was responding to her gentle body lines due to his pheromone sensitivity.
That meant she would keep touching him. His corruption would only continue to rise, and he couldn’t pray. The vicious cycle would repeat itself.
“When will my curse be broken?”
“In a month.”
“…What?”
“They said it takes a while.”
A month?
Payne, overwhelmed, stared blankly at the bed and then snapped out of it.
“Wait, so that means… I’ll be here with you for a month…?”
“Yes. We’ll be living together for a month.”
In that instant, it felt as if the world was crashing down.
Payne wondered if he could retain any sense of self-control while living with Ashtel for an entire month. If she just took off her clothes and jumped at him, he would likely respond like a dog. How could he maintain any human dignity in this situation?
And above all…
‘Living with a demon for a month…’
This was something that should never happen to a priest, both according to the doctrine and basic common sense.
The Katzel faith asserts that once a human has been corrupted by a demon, they can never return, and thus, the moment one is dragged into the demon realm or loses their divine power, they are considered dead, with a funeral held immediately. Upon seeing such a person again, they would be eliminated, just like a demon.
Payne was not afraid of being destroyed. What terrified him was the thought of abandoning Katzel’s love as a priest and falling into ruin.
“This is unbelievable…”
He held his head, overwhelmed with pain.
It was already hard enough to cope with the old curse he bore, but now, he had to live with Ashtel for the time being. And, as it was painfully obvious, he would have to have s-x with her to endure his rut. The despair that began to spread over his entire body grew larger with each passing moment.
Ashtel, sensing his distress, reached out to him with her hand on his shoulder, only to quickly retract it.
‘What should I do?’
Payne was suffering. He was sad.
But she felt so helpless and powerless, unable to do anything.
‘After he fell from the cliff, I promised I wouldn’t hurt him again.’
Ashtel bit her lip, then looked up resolutely.
She knew she couldn’t just sit still any longer.
‘I hope Payne won’t suffer.’
Though it was only for a month, now that it had come to this, she had to make this cabin a place where Payne could live comfortably.
After all, weren’t basic needs—food, shelter, and clothing—so important to humans?
Ashtel immediately thought about changing Payne’s tattered clothes and recalled her older sister’s name, the one who had taught her about humans.
It would be fine to ask Payne directly what he needed and bring it to him, but wouldn’t it be more touching if she took the initiative and provided for him herself?
“Is Sis Chacha in her domain?”
Ashtel quickly stepped outside the cabin and contacted Carmen.
Just as everyone was gathered, Carmen answered in her slow voice.
—Oh, she should be. Why?
“I need to live with Payne now. I was hoping to ask Sis Chacha for some advice.”
If Moablon, the fifth sister, had an interest in torturing humans, then Chacha, the fourth sister, was more fascinated by human ecology. She often descended to the human realm to indulge in pleasures and analyze them.
So, it made sense for Ashtel to turn to her for advice on these matters.
But…
‘That Sister is probably not entirely normal herself.’
Carmen, contemplating this, replied that she would connect Ashtel with her soon.
