Chapter 231
“Payne, let’s go to the mountain behind the house tomorrow.”
“The mountain?”
“There’s supposed to be a beautiful lake up there!”
But Ashtel’s expression was far too sly for someone just excited about a sightseeing trip to a lake.
‘What?’
What’s she up to now?
Payne narrowed his eyes at her, suspicious of whatever new scheme she might be planning. That’s when someone came knocking at their cabin door.
“Are you home?”
It was a familiar voice—one that made Payne sigh deeply.
“…Yes, we’re here.”
The door creaked open, and a sharply dressed wizard stepped in. Roman still had that irritatingly smug smile as he greeted Payne.
“It’s been a week. How are you feeling?”
“I’m fine.”
“You haven’t been able to drain your demonic energy in all that time. Are you sure you’re alright?”
“Yes, for now…”
Ever since Ashtel became human, the biggest problem they faced was Payne’s curse. Whenever his demonic energy started to overflow, he’d need a demon to absorb it.
Now that Ashtel couldn’t do that, things had gotten complicated.
Roman had come to help a few times, but there were limits to what he could do.
“I guess I’ll have to take that medicine you gave me last time?”
Payne’s voice was gloomy, his face as pale as dust.
But Roman shook his head and pulled a glass vial from his coat.
“I’ve developed a new device that should absorb your demonic energy for a while. It’s single-use, but it’ll keep things under control.”
“What is it?”
Through the clear glass, Payne could see a shimmering blob of slime. His expression turned even more anxious.
“Don’t tell me…”
“Oh, Roman! What are you doing here?”
Ashtel suddenly appeared, peeking over his shoulder.
Before she could spot the vial, Payne quickly hid it behind his back, glancing at Roman with pleading eyes.
Being clever, the wizard caught on at once and replied with a straight face,
“I just came to say it’ll be a while before I can finish developing the magic tool to lift your curse. Carmen’s been really busy lately.”
“What? Then what about Payne’s curse?”
“I’ll cast a few spells to tide him over for a few days. That should help.”
“Magic isn’t great for your body, but… okay, I understand.”
Roman suggested they move to a larger space to draw the magic circle, so he led Payne outside, leaving Ashtel in the kitchen to prepare for tomorrow’s lakeside picnic.
With just the two of them, Payne breathed a sigh of relief.
“About three times a day—just place it on your manhood, and it’ll absorb the excess demonic energy.”
“Three times?!”
“Yes. And once you’re done with it, just throw it in the grass. Just use a handful of slime each time.”
It was artificial slime—Roman’s latest experiment, apparently. Payne felt a growing sense of dread.
‘Why does it always have to go on my p***s?’
As if reading his mind, Roman answered,
“Demonic energy leaks from the body’s orifices, but your airways are too risky, and the ears are too sensitive for testing. Based on my experience, your manhood is the safest option.”
“…Understood.”
It made sense. Payne certainly didn’t want to put slime in his mouth or nose, and the idea of using his ears was horrifying.
At least he already had a history of Ashtel putting things there.
‘Wait, no—it’s still dangerous!’
Payne ran a shaky hand over his face and just urged Roman to get on with the spell already.
Roman accepted his impatience with a polite, social smile.

That night—
“Sue!”
Someone tapped on Ashtel’s window. It was a silent, deep night—even the crickets weren’t singing—but Ashtel hadn’t gone to bed yet.
As if she’d been waiting, she rose and opened the window.
“Hi, Sis Nluie.”
“I missed you!”
The fairy-like succubus dove at Ashtel, smothering her in kisses. Ashtel giggled, indulging her older sister’s antics before remembering to lower her voice.
After glancing around, she whispered,
“Did you bring what I asked for?”
“Yep, here it is!”
With a snap of her fingers, Nluie pulled a silk pouch, nearly as big as herself, out of a pocket dimension.
The pouch glimmered violet, as mysterious as the skies of the demon realm, and Ashtel took it reverently in her hands.
“Let’s see…”
She peeked inside and her eyes widened in awe.
“Wow, it’s beautiful…”
