Chapter 234
‘How do I seduce him?’
Back in the old days, just a bit of petting during his heat would have made him melt for her. But those days seemed to be over—the pheromone overreactions were fading, bit by bit.
Besides, Payne was now an expert at handling her. With just a few words, he could usually get the upper hand.
‘Payne really does know me too well.’
Ashtel thought with a silly grin—then quickly regained her senses.
She peered toward where Payne had walked off, and saw that he’d found a spot some distance away. He hesitated, then suddenly turned and glanced back at her.
“Gasp.”
Had he caught her watching?
Ashtel pretended not to notice, whistling and looking the other way. But Payne had already slipped behind the tall reeds, out of sight.
‘Oops. Now what?’
After some hesitation, she quietly started creeping in his direction.
* * *
“Whoo.”
Payne ran a hand through his wet hair, the heavy strands sticking to his neck. He didn’t care—he just swept the hair back and let out a deep sigh, letting the water run down his body.
‘Ashtel can’t possibly find me here.’
This lake was much bigger and cleaner than he’d expected. He’d gone deeper, past where the walking paths ended, and found a hidden spot where only forest birds would ever come.
It was the perfect place to be alone.
Payne quickly stripped off his clothes, slipped into the water, and began his prayers to Katzel.
Apparently, the legend about this place was true: he felt a surge of divine energy, stronger than he’d experienced in ages.
It was as if the same powerful blessing he’d received each morning at Medialle’s great sanctuary was now wrapping around him out here in the wild.
Since leaving the temple, he hadn’t missed much—except that strength, that rush of divine power. He’d never guessed he’d feel it again at a quiet lakeside behind his house.
‘Maybe this really will help with the curse, like Ashtel said.’
He splashed clean water over his face and then ducking beneath the surface.
He floated there, eyes closed in silent prayer, until suddenly his brow furrowed and he surfaced, gasping.
“Ugh.”
It wasn’t that he’d run out of breath; he could’ve stayed down longer.
But his body felt… wrong.
‘This feeling…’
A feverish heat, his heart pounding, a strange pain welling from deep inside his chest.
Payne let out a soft groan and looked down at his right arm.
Sure enough—a writhing snake pattern had appeared on his skin.
‘I’m showing signs of corruption.’
The curse is acting up and releasing demonic energy.
‘If the wizard hadn’t given me that device, I’d really be in trouble right now.’
Since moving here, he hadn’t experienced such a violent flare-up before.
He took a few deep breaths, waded to the shore, and started rummaging through his things. Soon, he pulled out a small glass jar.
‘Thank goodness Ashtel isn’t around.’
If she were, she could get seriously hurt by the demonic energy.
‘But… how does this even work?’
He eyed the jar. The bottom was lined with a layer of glistening, wobbly slime.
With a grimace, he popped the lid and pinched off a piece.
It was oddly limp, like cold, over-kneaded dough.
“Hm…”
He hesitated for a moment, then double-checked that he was really alone. He knew what he was about to do was, well, pretty undignified.
“Hoo…”
He took a deep breath, sat down by the water’s edge, and reached for his g***n.
His soft, heavy c**k hung low, almost dipping into the lake. He shook off some stray droplets, made a face like he was dipping his toes in something unpleasant, and gingerly set the bit of slime on the tip.
“Hngh—!”
The cold jolt made his hips twitch.
Startled by the involuntary noise, he looked around again and hunched his shoulders, glancing down between his legs.
‘….Is it supposed to move?’
He caught himself waiting for the slime to wiggle or crawl, and then let out a sigh.
It’s just a magically engineered slime—if it did anything weird, Roman would’ve warned him… right?
‘This is all because of that mess in the demon realm. I wouldn’t even be doing this otherwise…’
But then, as he thought, a low ache started radiating up from below—and Payne’s hips jerked reflexively.
“Ah—!”
