Chapter 5.7
“Should I not be curious about how you plan to console her?”
“There’s only one way to comfort a sulking lover.”
“Ah, I suddenly feel envious of you. Will I find someone like Lady Emers at the banquet?”
He pretended to sob, but Richard wasn’t fooled. Calix as a cold and ruthless person.
“Maybe if you look hard enough, you’ll find someone.”
“Ha, then the banquet will be very dull. Dancing with trembling women is humiliating.”
His red eyes strike fear into the hearts of those who have never seen him before. It’s like a herbivore facing a carnivore—without reason, the body freezes and cowers. Yet, Judy Esther treated him like a passing extra.
Calix, the Crown Prince of Rumelern, wanted to possess her—the only woman who didn’t fear him, Judy Esther Emers.
“Be careful. If I see an opening, I’ll take it.”
“There won’t be any openings.”
“I also need to find my own woman. I won’t live in sorrow.”
Calix gave him a look of disbelief and stood up from his seat.
“Judy, aren’t you sad to see the nameless guy leaving already?”
“…There’s still beer and you’re leaving already?”
Judy Esther looked at the beer Calix had left behind and muttered, “Leaving precious liquor behind, tragic.” Calix felt strangely inferior to the beer.
“Aren’t you curious about my full name?”
His red eyes were blisteringly piercing as he looked at Judy Esther. She met his gaze without flinching. In the depths of Calix’s heart, a complex, indescribable emotion swirled. A woman who didn’t fear him.
“Calix of the Rumelern Empire?”
Judy Esther called out to him in a languid voice. Calix’s heart gave an unexpected lurch. Why was his heart racing like this?
“Do I need to know more?”
“I…?”
“The more I know, the more entangled we’ll become. I think we’re better off stopping here.”
Calix was about to reveal his true identity, but Judy Esther shook her head and spoke.
“I think you, Calix, are the protagonist of another world, but not this one. The main heroine in your world just isn’t me.”
“Why do you think that?”
“Because my heart doesn’t beat for you.”
Judy Esther’s words pierced Calix’s heart, causing a sharp pain.
Judy Esther turned her gaze to Richard, and Calix felt uneasy. If he were to kidnap her and take her to Rumelern, lock her in a tower, and make her only look at him… He wanted to break her so that she couldn’t live without him.
These feelings weren’t normal.
“I have my heart set on someone else. You’re not him.”
Judy Esther took Richard’s hand and pouted, asking, “Darling, do you really keep your promises?”
“Judy, what do I need to promise you?”
“Can I ask for many things?”
“Right now, I’d grant anything you ask, even if it’s Rumelern.”
Richard spoke slowly, glancing at Calix.
“Ha, Richard. If it’s Rumelern, I could give it to Judy, too.”
Calix let out a hollow laugh. He grumbled and showed his regret, unable to leave easily. However, it is a virtue to let go of those who will leave.
‘Judy Esther of the Emers family. If I get the chance, I will seize it and won’t let you go. You should be happy, for once you’re in my hands, you’ll have only me to look at.’
Hiding his dark thoughts, Calix composed himself. He muttered, “We’ll meet again,” and stood up with a smile, leaving Judy Esther and Richard behind, who seemed uninterested in his departure. His knights quickly followed him.
Richard watched Calix’s unsettling departure and turned his attention to Judy Esther.
“Judy Esther, my heart beats only for you. Do not doubt it.”
He brought her hand to his chest. As her hand touched him, his heart raced uncontrollably—thump, thump, thump. His breath grew ragged, rising and falling in time with her touch.
Love doesn’t necessarily correlate with the time you spend together. Their relationship had progressed rapidly in just a few days, but it’s time aplenty to fall in love.
“Your Highness, this is tachycardia.”
“It’s not normal.”
Not just his heart, but he also felt a rising heat below. Unlike others, he had a relatively subdued libido. Even when his half-brothers had affairs or his friends dated noblewomen, he felt little excitement.
He wasn’t very interested in s*x, so those around him tried to set him up with women, using the logic that while there might be people who never have s*x, there’s no one who stops after just once.
“Are we going to have a big accident like this?”
Richard stroked Judy Esther’s cheek. Her skin was a lovely pink from the alcohol, and he wanted to kiss her and hold her.
“If there’s anything you want, tell me when you’re sober. The same goes for any promises you want from me.”
“There’s only one thing I want.”
“Whatever it is, I’ll do it for you.”
He stood up, and Judy Esther followed, but she stumbled. She seemed drunk.
“I’ll take you home. If you stay out one rnore night, I don’t think the Marquis will let me off easy.”
“But the festivities are just getting started.”
