Chapter 7.8
Their eyes locked. His gaze was burning with desire. Is this what it means for eyes to entangle? It was as if his eyes were flickering. Her heart thundered in her chest.
“Your Royal Highness the Crown Prince, the future king of Adrian, am I right to believe you’ve chosen me?”
“There was never any other choice.”
His long fingers brushed the edge of her lips before falling away. As his palm softly grazed her cheek, he leaned in and murmured in a low, honeyed voice that felt like a seduction in itself.
She trusted Richard. It wasn’t him she couldn’t trust—it was the original story. The tale that told of a man who would give up everything for the woman he fell in love with at first sight. She was terrified that the time they’d spent together during the Founding Festival would vanish like a midsummer night’s dream once this evening ended.
“As you said, only my body came. But I made sure to dress up. So be sweet to me, would you?”
From the palace terrace, the capital of Adrian glittered beneath them. The night sky, the city—everything was beautiful.
“Will you marry me?”
The words were low, warm, and carried on his breath, curling right into her ear.
At the weight of his sincere proposal, Judy Esther felt something surge from deep within her chest. Her nose tingled. Her heart was pounding like mad.
“I never really had any other choice either.”
Meeting his earnest gaze, she laid bare her truth.
“Liar. You were always looking to run away every chance you got.”
“Sometimes pretending not to notice is the mark of a truly kind man, Your Highness.”
She raised a hand to gently caress his cheek.
“Don’t ever push me away again. Don’t deny my love, Judy Esther.”
She felt the warmth of his hand trailing down her face, from her forehead to the bridge of her nose, then her cheek. Every stroke set her nerves ablaze, like all her senses were drawn to the places he touched.
“If you wanted, I’d give you my heart. I wish you could see all of me—my thoughts, my feelings.”
“I feel the same way.”
“Still refusing to answer, are you? Will you marry me?”
His familiar scent drew close, and then his lips pressed to hers.
“In this state, I don’t think I can give you an answer.”
“You’re giving me one just fine, right now.”
Her lips parted slightly, and his hot tongue slid in, sweeping over her teeth and curling around her own. Her body trembled. His hand urgently cupped the back of her head, pulling her in closer until there was no space between them. His tongue reached even deeper, and the difference in their heights tilted her head backward.
“Ha.”
Richard devoured her in a frenzy. His tongue explored every nook and cranny of her mouth. Saliva trickled down her throat, and the force of his tongue curling around hers and tugging at it threatened to rip it off its root.
“Hmph.”
Her breath came out ragged. Her nose was pressed, so she couldn’t breathe properly. As he nibbled and sucked on her lower and upper lips, she let out a lustful moan.
Judy Esther’s wandering hands wrapped around Richard’s neck and held him close. He nuzzled her ear and the nape of her neck, then wrapped his arms around her waist.
Their saliva-stained lips parted for a moment, and Richard drew in a sharp breath.
“Do you want my heart to touch you?
Richard lightly sucked at her bottom lip and whispered, “I want you to take me in as actively as you would during s*x. You think of running away as soon as you leave the bed. What should I do with you? I can’t just lock you up and do that to you.” Unlike Judy Esther, whose face was flushed, he looked relaxed.
“Oh, no. You know what?”
“S*x on the terrace might be worth a try.””
He buried his head in the crook of her neck and whispered. His hot breath tickled the nape of her neck, making the insides of her legs tingle. His tongue licked her throat, working its way up to her earlobe, nibbling.
“I can’t believe this is ……all a first time.””
“You don’t think so?”
Judy Esther’s lower abdomen tightened as she saw the desire sparkling in the man’s eyes. He wasn’t just a good kisser; his voice was deadly sweet as he whispered his confession. This might have been how Eve felt when she was tempted by the serpent to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Would she have been able to resist the temptation had she known that she would be banished from paradise? Wouldn’t we all rather cling to the certainty of today than the uncertainty of tomorrow?
“You’re so good at it, I can’t even think straight?”
“I’ll try to make sure that everything I do from now on is good.”
Richard smiled mischievously and lowered his head again.
“And of course, the s*x will be better.”
