Chapter 193
“How have you been, Lady Veronica?”
Veronica, or rather the shadow, bit her lip and looked at the woman in front of her.
“How did you get in here? I thought you ran away.”
Emotions that weren’t her own were uncomfortable. Regardless of her will, her heart began to race. She also felt nauseous. It was Veronica’s reaction to Erika.
It had been like this ever since she realized that Erika had betrayed her.
“All nobles can come to the Imperial Palace’s New Year’s Banquet. As the Crown Princess’s lady-in-waiting, I can no longer enter the Imperial Palace, but as a noble, it’s entirely possible. Oh, I wonder if you knew that even a fallen, insignificant family can come?”
“Ah, that’s right. Of course.”
Slightly conscious of the surrounding gazes, Veronica erased her slightly nervous look and smiled. As if welcoming her. She naturally stood in the middle of the banquet hall, on the path leading to the ritual site.
It became impossible to go there without passing Veronica. Erika let out a hmm sound through her nose.
“But what to do, I have nothing more to say to a dog that bites its owner and runs away. Oh, would you like some of this?”
Erika ignored the wine that Veronica held out with a feigned bright smile and said,
“My owner is Lady Veronica, not you, right?”
You fake. Erika whispered that and spilled the wine that Veronica offered. The blood-red wine splashed miserably on Veronica’s dress, which was brightly adorned for the New Year.
“Eek! What do I do! I’m sorry, Lady Veronica. Are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere?”
“Ha.”
The shadow scoffed involuntarily. What a ridiculous trick. She was trying to exclude Veronica from this place before the New Year’s Banquet began.
She had intended to watch quietly to have fewer variables, but at this point, she had no choice but to call the guards.
The moment the shadow thought that in her head, Erika just smiled at her.
‘Smile?’
It was the moment Veronica was flustered.
“To ruin your dress when you were so looking forward to this day. I’m so upset. Let’s go inside and change into a spare dress. I’ll help you.”
Erika said that and strode closer to Veronica, whispering in her ear.
“I’ve done what you asked. Don’t you need this?”
Veronica glanced and confirmed what Erika was subtly showing in her clenched fist.
‘The Black Dragon’s Orb?’
It was one of the things that had gone wrong. The Crown Prince and Ryuhyeon were acting leisurely, but that was an item that could only be obtained once a year. If she missed it now, she would have to wait until next year.
That was necessary for the complete ritual. Without that orb, they couldn’t bring about the Archmage’s complete annihilation.
“Come this way, Lady Veronica!”
Erika called out to her, feigning exaggerated concern. For a moment, Veronica considered killing her right then, but in the end, she obediently followed her. The New Year’s Banquet had to proceed normally. Until the ritual was over. It would be a problem if the sacrifices escaped before that.
People seemed to pay them brief attention, but thinking it was a minor incident, they became noisy again and continued talking to each other.
The sound of the two women’s heels echoed through the hallway, and they finally stopped in front of a door. Maids tried to follow them to assist, but Veronica stopped them with a look, so only the two of them were there.
Soon, the two people opened the door and went inside. It was a private room used by the women of the Imperial Family.
“Did Lady Roina tell you my identity?”
“Well, something like that.”
As soon as the door closed, Veronica’s expression changed. It changed to a somewhat annoyed, expressionless one.
“What do you want?”
Erika looked at Veronica, or rather the other being inside her, and smiled sadly. The current her was alive because of Veronica. But her Veronica had disappeared. She was hidden deep inside, and she couldn’t see her. Because of that being.
“You still don’t know what I want?”
Erika raised her hand and took out something that looked like a jewel from her bosom. A murmuring tone flowed from her mouth. Noticing the strangeness, Veronica took a step back and became wary of Erika.
“Get out of that body!”
In that instant, electricity shot out from Erika’s hand.
Roina sensed something from Yoseph’s dark expression. He knew something.
“…You saw Lutan.”
“…Yes.”
Yoseph pushed up his glasses and took a nervous deep breath before continuing.
“His condition was strange. It’s too risky to face him now.”
Roina bit her lip.
“But we can’t just leave him like that. That person ended up like that because of me…”
“Lady Roina.”
Yoseph looked at Roina with calm eyes. His warm hand was placed on hers, conveying warmth.
“Please listen carefully to what I’m about to say. This is a bigger deal than we thought.”
