Chapter 268
“Why are you drawing?”
Neilla suddenly said that. The imperial man she had been watching paused at those words, stopping his movements for a moment.
“I have to save my father.”
“Father? If it’s your father…”
Is he talking about that person? Neilla looked at Count Icardo in front of her. He was closing his eyes as if in a deep sleep, surrounded by magic stones. At first, she was surprised, but Neilla thought it might actually be a relief that the Count was in this state. It would have been scary if he were alive and moving. Of course, she didn’t wish for anyone to die.
“Is Count Icardo your father?”
There was no answer to that question. He was just silently moving his hands.
“If you finish this painting, will he come back to life?”
“Yes.”
He answered simply. Neilla made an oh… sound and looked back and forth between his painting and Count Icardo. Judging from the paintings scattered around him, which were similar to Count Icardo but different, perhaps because his painting skills weren’t that good originally, there were hundreds of them discarded.
“…Does he only come back to life if you draw him exactly the same?”
“…Maybe.”
He said without certainty. He also seemed tired and helpless. Perhaps the repetitive painting wasn’t such a pleasant task for him. But he kept painting.
Neilla watched him draw intently.
“That’s not how you draw it. Here, this part is different.”
Before she knew it, Neilla was teaching the man. Looking at the paintings scattered around him, he had been drawing the same part of the painting wrong continuously.
Neilla eventually couldn’t stand it and ended up correcting the repeated mistake.
“Ah.”
“Ah? What’s with that dazed sound? When did you last sleep? When did you eat? If you keep drawing in this state, you won’t even notice that you’re making the same mistake over and over again.”
He seemed to have decided to ignore Neilla’s last words and started correcting the part she had pointed out. Just correcting that part alone made the result much better than before.
“You only answer about the painting, geez. And you should mix this color with this one. Simply using black doesn’t make the shading look good.”
She didn’t know if she was being helpful or not, or if she was doing the right thing. Isn’t Count Icardo the person who brought Castrello to this state? However, the water of Aiha hanging around her neck was sloshing and sparkling, as if it was saying she was doing well.
‘Okay, it’s about saving a person’s life. Let’s not think about anything else.’
Neilla and the man became engrossed in the painting for a long time.
Clang-!
“Jason, Rager…”
Camillo and Ethan had tried breaking and moving the magic stones, but it seemed impossible to save the two of them using physical methods. Roina called out to the two of them with a pitiful voice.
These were people who wouldn’t have had to come to this place if it weren’t for her, so her regret was even greater.
“Please step back for a moment.”
When Roina stepped forward and spoke, the two siblings obediently stepped back. She raised her gi and placed her hand on the magic stone. She could feel a densely condensed mana from her fingertips.
‘This mana…’
The mana itself was pure energy. However, it was so firmly solidified that even Roina’s golden energy couldn’t penetrate it. She couldn’t understand why, but she tried various methods with her golden mana on the tightly bound aggregate of mana, but soon gave up.
“…If we try to forcefully break it, both people inside will be destroyed along with it, I think.”
That couldn’t happen. Camillo and Ethan also wore serious expressions at Roina’s words.
“There must be another way.”
Ethan’s grave voice carried weight. Roina nodded slightly at those words.
Since the magic stones were gradually increasing as they went deeper inside, they would probably be able to find out the cause of this if they went further in. She felt like she knew a little bit by feeling with her golden energy, so she would definitely be able to explore in more detail if she got closer to the source.
But… She looked at her contractors trapped in the magic stones with a regretful heart.
“Roina, we can’t carry these guys around.”
Camillo said coldly, shaking her head.
It was true, but Roina hesitated. Was there really no other way?
