Chapter 303
Roina and her group teleported straight to the Amasto mansion near the imperial palace.
As they got closer to the imperial palace, they could feel a dark sky with a red vortex forming. Yoseph, who saw Roina’s group arrive, hurriedly approached them.
“You’ve returned!”
With those words, he didn’t forget to try and hug Roina, but was blocked by Jason. No matter how much he had shed his boyish looks and become a young man compared to before, a scholar who spent his time holding and reading documents and researching magic couldn’t beat a warrior who trained his body every day.
Yoseph gave Jason a weak glare but didn’t say anything. It wasn’t a situation where allies should be bickering.
“It’s fortunate that you’ve arrived. Were you aware of the sudden change in the imperial palace?”
“We felt something ominous and came, but the imperial palace? What happened?”
“The imperial palace has transformed into living darkness. The magical space that was originally only in the depths has expanded, devouring everything. It seems that its territory is expanding more and more.”
“Are you, are you alright?”
At Roina’s worried words, Yoseph smiled faintly and replied. Roina let out a short sigh of relief.
“What about Maili?”
“My sister…”
“Roina!!”
At that moment, Maili, who suddenly appeared, ran to Roina and hugged her. This time, Jason didn’t stop her, and the two friends, who had met after a long time, shared their feelings to their heart’s content.
“Maili, are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?”
“Who do you think you’re talking to! Do you know how worried I was when I heard you went to the far south? There’s a rumor that black monsters appear in the sea there, you know.”
“Oh, that… There were some, but Roina didn’t see them…”
“What?!”
“Jason saw such things?”
Roina subtly avoided Maili’s gaze, which seemed to be asking how many dangerous things she had been doing, and turned the blame to Jason. Jason looked away, his face showing that he wondered if he had slipped up.
“Anyway, I’ll let it slide for now. But after this is over, you have to tell me everything that happened!”
“……Okay.”
Maili abruptly grabbed Roina’s wrist, as she used to do. To make sure Roina could move. She had been like that since her days as a slave. Even though she sometimes spoke prejudiced or deliberately harsh words, she couldn’t ignore Roina being isolated alone. In fact, Roina had probably endured thanks to her conversations with Maili back then.
Maili took Roina to the center of the Amasto mansion, the main hall. There, people were interpreting ancient texts at makeshift tables, and others were busy in a strategy meeting. Seeing familiar faces there, Roina’s eyes widened. There were revolutionaries, Veronica, Neilla, and even priests of Mana.
“People from Castrello have also come.”
“While Roina-nim was away, we succeeded in properly analyzing and replicating one of the ancient magical tools. It’s something we’ve been focusing on from the beginning, thinking it would have the greatest and most significant impact on human development.
“Roina-nim!”
Those who found Roina greeted her happily. Veronica seemed awkward and hesitant, but she didn’t seem to dislike Roina. Roina responded by taking her hand as well.
Dressed in simple attire and wearing glasses, she looked like a typical intellectual. Veronica was here as a scholar-official, not the lavishly decorated noble lady she used to be. Nearby, Erika, who had become the leader of the revolutionaries, looked at her with adoring eyes.
Jason greeted the revolutionaries casually, and Ethan, who came with the people from Castrello, looked at Roina with dark eyes. She couldn’t accept him now. Roina simply nodded lightly to Ethan as a greeting. It must have been difficult for him to leave his position as king, but he, too, must have felt that these ominous signs covering the continent were unusual.
“Thank you all for gathering.”
