Realizing that he was somehow lying on top of the dog, Yi Hyeon panicked and quickly tried to move. But again, he let out a small groan as something strange caught his attention.

Then, he noticed that the fluffy paws seemed to move along with his own movements.

When he stopped, they stopped. When he wriggled, the five tiny toes with claws wiggled too.

“Bark! Bark!”

‘What the—! What’s going on?!’

Shocked, Yi Hyeon’s body jumped up from the cushion he was lying on, and the sound of a dog barking came from deep in his throat.

‘No way… this can’t be happening…’

Desperate, he checked his paws—or were they hands? He flipped them over, and there, on the soft pads of his paws, were small, squishy pink toe beans.

It wasn’t a mistake.

‘This is crazy! How is this even possible?!’

At first, he thought it was just a dream.

Isn’t it strange? I got hit by a car while saving a puppy, and now I’ve turned into a dog? It feels like something out of a webtoon. But every time I clenched and unclenched my fist, the little paws that wriggled felt too real to deny.

That wasn’t all. People say you can’t smell or feel pain in dreams, but with every movement, the throbbing pain in my body and the cool, fruity scent filling the room were sharp and vivid.

Let’s say, for argument’s sake, that this isn’t a dream. Yi Hyeon briefly retraced his steps, wondering why something like this had happened to him.

‘…Did I die after being hit by the car?’

Could it be that I ended up in heaven? Or maybe I reincarnated as a dog? As he seriously pondered the possibility of his own death, he was suddenly startled by a man’s furious shout.

“You crazy bastard! Are you a psychopath?”

Before Yi Hyeon could even comprehend the situation, the loud yelling was enough to scare him. What he didn’t expect, though, was to bury his face in the overly cute, bunny-printed cushion beneath him. Bewildered by his own reaction, Yi Hyeon let out a helpless laugh.

“If this happens again, you’re dead! You hear me? I’ll kill you with my own hands!”

Loud footsteps stomped around the room, followed by the sound of creaking metal—no, it was the friction of screws connecting metal parts, all of which Yi Hyeon could hear clearly.

Come to think of it, there had been a buzzing sound in the background this whole time.

‘Is that wind? No way.’

Yi Hyeon’s heart pounded in his chest as he noticed the curtains fluttering in the breeze coming through a slightly open window. Just as fear began to rise, the sound of slippers dragging across the floor came to a halt in front of the door.

Hoping to avoid meeting anyone until he could make sense of things, Yi Hyeon quickly scurried on his four little legs. As he moved, the tiny claws at the ends of his paws tapped against the marble floor with a clicking sound.

Click.

Just as he wedged his small, plump body behind the desk chair, the door opened.

“Louie?”

From behind the chair, Yi Hyeon could see a pair of feet standing. The person who had been repeatedly calling out a French-sounding name, likely a fan of macarons, had stopped right in front of the desk.

“Is our Louie here?”

Yi Hyeon’s heart was racing, and just as he braced himself, the chair was pushed back. Startled by the sound of the wheels, Yi Hyeon tucked his tail between his legs and shoved his head into the narrow space behind the desk. His round, cotton-like rump quivered with fear.

Warm hands gently scooped him up, and the unfamiliar sensation of being held made Yi Hyeon wriggle his legs in the air, as if swimming.

“You must’ve been really scared earlier, huh?”

“Yip!”

The person cradled Yi Hyeon in one hand and gently patted his back with the other. Feeling the touch all over his bare body made Yi Hyeon want to hide out of embarrassment. He instinctively burrowed his small head into the crook of the man’s arm.

“What’s wrong? Are you hurt? The doctor said there didn’t seem to be any serious injuries.”

The person carefully checked Yi Hyeon’s body, their fingers skillful and precise.

As the ticklish sensation spread, Yi Hyeon found himself absentmindedly rubbing his head against the man’s firm side, like a pet seeking comfort. It was only when reality hit him that he stiffened up in shock.

The man, Louie’s owner, gently stroked Yi Hyeon’s back, and just before he could burst into tears, the familiar, comforting scent filled his nose. Now that he thought about it, the voice calling him “Louie” also seemed strangely familiar.

Suppressing his fear, Yi Hyeon slowly lifted his head.

The first thing he noticed was the pocket of the man’s shirt. The same logo, which he had seen countless times over the past two years and three months, was stitched onto it.
