A soft thud of footsteps climbing the metal stairs startled Yi Hyeon awake, prompting him to quickly sit up.

‘He shouldn’t be back yet.’

Hurriedly, he flipped the channel away from the science program he’d been watching, and then trotted over to wait by the door. Yi Hyeon sat with his little rear on the floor, tail tapping the marble impatiently, as he anticipated the door opening.

‘I wonder what kind of treats she’ll bring today.’

Perhaps because it was a wealthy household, the food they provided for Louie was always top-notch. Of course, the selection of foods he could actually eat was rather limited, which was a bit disappointing. Still, Yi Hyeon was grateful that there were human foods he could eat to fill his stomach. He could already feel his mouth watering.

The door clicked and opened, and Yi Hyeon’s tail wagged faster in anticipation. But instead of the lady with a delicious tray of food, it was a student in a Korean high school uniform who entered.

Han Se Hyun. Yi Hyeon vaguely recognized his face from people constantly referring to him as “the congressman’s son.” With his gentle expression and slightly downturned eyes when he smiled, he was like a warm spring breeze—quite the contrast to Han Joon, who was more like a winter gale.

“Louie, you were here alone?”

Though his voice was fairly kind, Yi Hyeon didn’t like the look in Se Hyun’s eyes as he gazed at him. Perhaps it was because Yi Hyeon knew that Se Hyun had spoken poorly of Han Joon.

“Sorry about last time. I was just trying to put on a new harness, but I didn’t expect you to run away so quickly.”

When Yi Hyeon had found Louie, he hadn’t even been wearing a collar. He’d assumed Louie was just a stray, but it seemed Se Hyun had lost him while attempting to switch to a new harness.

‘I get it, but you shouldn’t be doing things like that near a dangerous road.’

“As an apology, I brought you a treat. You like fLouiet, right?”

They say people who like animals can’t be bad. And even more so if they’re offering delicious food.

Se Hyun seemed to realize his mistake, so he’d probably be more careful from now on. As Se Hyun loosened his fist and extended it, Yi Hyeon’s tail wagged, his nose twitching with curiosity.

‘I wonder what tasty treat he brought?’ As he sniffed with excitement, Yi Hyeon hesitated. ‘Maybe it’s one of those apple mangoes the lady gave me a few days ago.’

The tail that had been swaying joyfully started to droop.

In Se Hyun’s hand was a small, grayish grape-like object that gave off a sweet grape scent, though it didn’t look like any grape he’d seen before. Feeling uneasy, Yi Hyeon clamped his mouth shut and took a step back.

“What’s wrong, Louie? This is tasty, you know.”

When Se Hyun pushed the fLouiet closer, Yi Hyeon backed away, squirming to avoid it. Insisting that once he tasted it he’d want more, Se Hyun tried to force it into his mouth.

‘No, I’m not eating it. Stop pushing it at me. If you keep this up, the juice will get in my mouth!’

Just as Yi Hyeon was flailing his paws, resisting with all his might, he heard rapid footsteps pounding up the metal stairs. In a flash, Se Hyun was thrown to the marble floor with a powerful kick.

“You crazy jerk!”

Han Joon yelled, standing over him. Se Hyun, sprawled on the floor, cursed under his breath.

“How many times have I told you to stop your crap, or I won’t let it slide?”

“Are you delusional? What the hell is wrong with you now?”

“If I’m delusional, then you’re a psychopath. I told you, if you don’t like me, take it out on me. Don’t go tormenting innocent animals.”

“Yeah, I don’t like you. I hate that you even breathe in this house. So if you want to keep that mutt safe, why don’t you just leave? Isn’t that simple? Why can’t you do it?”

“You—this jerk—are you really doing this on purpose…!”

Han Joon, grabbing Se Hyun by the collar, raised his fist to strike just as footsteps echoed up the metal stairs, someone urgently rushing down the hallway.
