Chapter 1
I.
“Ah… hnk.”
Lena clamped a hand over her mouth, a strangled gasp slipping through.
The crown atop her silver hair sat slightly askew now. Through her slender fingers, the thick stench of blood hit her all at once. Just beyond the curtain where she hid, before the throne, the king’s body lay stretched across the floor, blood still surging from the wound.
The barbaric conquerors were ransacking the palace as they pleased. The king had loomed like a towering rock face, but in death he looked as insignificant as a straw doll, perhaps because all the weight of blood had drained from him, or because the conqueror who had cut him down stood so impossibly vast.
The princes, too, were scattered across the audience chamber, limp and helpless like discarded toys.
“There should be one more princess.”
“Hhk.”
Lena sucked in a sharp breath at his muttered words. The sound must have slipped past the curtain.
Heavy boots crunched closer. The drapery ripped aside, and Lena found herself face to face with a giant of a man, a monstrous figure.
‘My name is Lenasia Aitalos. Sixth princess of the Kingdom of Aitalos.’
She had already given up any expectation of fleeing, of surviving this.
When the moment came, she would simply speak the words she had prepared and meet death with composure.
<Lena, you have to stay alive. I will come for you. I swear it.>
So that her beloved prince, who had managed to escape, could stay hidden.
But death looming right before her was too menacing, too terrifying. All pretense of dignity and poise abandoned, Lena threw herself at the man’s legs.
“Please, spare me!”
Tears streamed from her pale blue eyes. The fallen crown rolled across the floor.
“Please, please let me live. I’ll, I’ll do anything…”
She was never a real princess to begin with. Just a slave pretending to be one. Did such a lowly thing even deserve a dignified death? Lena’s tongue kept twisting and stiffening with fear as she begged and begged again.
“Your Majesty?”
A knight called out to him from a short distance, but he did not dare approach.
Deeply sunken golden eyes silently observed the woman sobbing. Under that gaze, which seemed to pierce right through her, Lena shrank even further.
“Stand up.”
A shiver ran through Lena at the low voice. She forced strength into her legs and barely managed to rise, and then the cold touch of a gauntlet pressed firmly against her jaw. The emperor gripped Lena’s chin without a trace of gentleness and turned her face this way and that. The pale, delicate skin so thin the veins nearly showed through, the slender jaw. The small, pert nose and the tear-soaked pale blue eyes.
“Hik.”
The man’s face drew close, but she could not pull back her firmly held chin. Up close, those golden eyes were terribly arrogant, cold, and savage.
Were those the eyes of a predator that had filled its belly with slaughter and now craved a distraction from its boredom?
‘He sees me as a toy.’
The thought flickered through Lena’s mind. The next moment, her lips were devoured.
“……!”
A shameless tongue pried the gap open and slid inside. One hand gripped the back of her small, stunned head and pulled her in, crossing the straight bridge of his nose against hers as he explored deep inside her mouth.
“Hnn……! Mm.”
The thick flesh had already coiled around her small tongue, tangling with it skillfully. A wet, slick sound rose as their saliva mingled.
She could not gather her senses at all. The stench of blood still stung her nose. Fake family or not, the royals now rolling around as corpses had protected Lena her whole life. The land burning outside was Lena’s homeland, Aitalos. The enemy soldiers who had shattered and trampled all of it were watching them with wide, alert eyes. And yet this man was kissing her now as if he meant to melt and swallow everything inside her mouth.
‘Crazy bastard.’
Was this the kind of man his own country hailed as a great conquering monarch?
Even so, Lena had to keep her mouth obediently open and show no sign of displeasure. Whenever her small lips threatened to close, that thick tongue would force its way back in and pry them apart.
A large hand gripped her waist, small enough that it seemed not even a handful. The thin fabric of her dress crumpled miserably under the gauntlet.
The hand slid down her trembling body and lifted her skirt. The feel of cold air brushing her pale legs raised goosebumps. At the clink of his belt coming undone, Lena finally realized what he meant to do.
“No, you can’t!”
“You said you would do anything.”
“Ah…”
The tears clinging to the tip of her chin dropped to the floor. The emperor watched with indifferent eyes, as though her pain or sorrow meant nothing at all.
Of course they didn’t. He was a brutal conqueror, and instead of killing the last remaining royal of a fallen kingdom, he was simply toying with her for a bit of amusement.
