His gaze rested on Psyche’s ghostly pale face, his words colder than ice and as merciless as they were detached. He then turned away and disappeared to somewhere in the room.

Rezus, who had been quietly leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, exchanged a glance with Helios. At the signal, Helios stepped up to stand directly behind Psyche.

“My apologies.”

At that moment, Terche returned, carrying something in his hand. It was a handkerchief. Helios took the handkerchief from Terche just as Psyche, half in a daze, finally found her voice.

“You’re all insane….”

She staggered backward, a look of utter shock on her face, covering her mouth as she muttered under her breath.

“They’re out of their minds… how can they do something like this so casually…?”

Psyche panted heavily, as though struggling for air, her breaths ragged and uneven. Her gaze shifted back to the screen, still suspended in the air. On it, a young man, his face still bearing the softness of youth, lay collapsed in a horrifying state.

“How… how can they all be like this…? How?”

She stumbled backward, her legs giving out beneath her, and she collapsed onto the floor.

Was this surge of emotion anger? Sorrow? Or was it fear?

Curling up as though to shield herself, Psyche hugged her body tightly and bit down hard on her trembling lips.

Perhaps, deep down, she had underestimated this world—dismissed it as nothing more than a novel’s construct. She had thought that knowing the future would give her an advantage, that she could handle it all with ease and resolve every situation without much effort.

But seeing Ruon, battered beyond recognition, and witnessing these four men, much larger than herself, discuss breaking her arms as if it were nothing… only now did she begin to understand.

Just how lightly she had been taking all of this.

She wrapped her trembling body tightly, inhaling deeply and exhaling in an attempt to calm herself.

I need to pull myself together.

If this continues, both she and Ruon would be utterly ruined, physically and mentally.

At least she had some knowledge of the events to come and could try to handle things more wisely. But Ruon was different. Ruon didn’t know anything.

‘Then why… why is this happening already? It hasn’t even been ten days yet!’

And it wasn’t just his arm that was broken. Fear and confusion overwhelmed her as she struggled to understand why the course of events had changed so drastically. The thought of Ruon, who in the original story had endured relentless torture, developing severe trauma and eventually succumbing to muteness, left her feeling even more despair.

At that moment, Psyche’s body was suddenly pulled upward. Serdin had grabbed her wrist and yanked her to her feet.

“Damn it, get up. If you stall for time, you’ll only make things worse for yourself—”

“Don’t touch me!”

Serdin, caught off guard, hesitated as Psyche pushed his hand away with surprising force. He tried to steady her unsteady form by holding her close, but she shoved him off with a sharp motion.

If I let them break my arms here, the next time, they’ll break all of Ruon’s limbs. If that happens, the situation will spiral into something utterly irreparable.

‘That can’t happen… it mustn’t happen.’

Psyche clenched her fists tightly and raised her head high. She struggled desperately to calm her wildly trembling body as she shouted urgently at the men threateningly surrounding her.

“If you break both of my arms, Ruon will suffer something even worse next time. Do you really think this is the right thing to do? Really?”

A scoff broke the tense silence. The sound came from Rezus.

“Anyone listening would think you actually care about Ruon,” he said, peeling himself leisurely off the wall.

Rezus began to approach her slowly, like a predatory black panther circling its vulnerable prey, tightening the noose.

Instinctively, Psyche took a step back, overwhelmed by his imposing aura. Rezus, watching her retreat with an indifferent expression, twisted his lips into a smirk and murmured in a low voice.

“Why don’t you just be honest? Admit you’re scared out of your mind, terrified your arms are about to break. Beg us to stop, plead for mercy.”

For a moment, the focus in Psyche’s eyes wavered.

“Ha…”

She lowered her gaze and muttered faintly, almost to herself.

“Yes, you’re right… Denying it would be a lie. Of course I’m scared.”
