Chapter 125
Until then, he needed to buy time. Even if it meant being seen as a bastard by Psyche—by everyone.
As he let out a self-deprecating laugh and was about to order Serdin to leave,
“Get out now……”
“Time is on our side, you say?”
A deep frown formed between Rezus’s brows. His expression seemed to ask if Serdin still had more to say.
“Have you not considered that Psyche might manifest her ability before Ruon?”
“…….”
“Something’s off. Look at how unnaturally calm he’s being, even though his beloved younger sister is a hostage, that bastard Zephyros.”
“I get what you’re trying to say. But even if we strike Mathes right now, what changes? And if Ruon’s head doesn’t get chopped off, we’d be lucky?”
“What if Psyche manifests her ability before Ruon….”
A cold voice mercilessly cut off Serdin’s words.
“Even a brat wouldn’t throw a tantrum like this. Why don’t you just be honest? You don’t want to see Psyche suffer anymore, so you’re saying we should stop everything now and charge in.”
For a moment, blue veins bulged on the back of Serdin’s hand as it gripped the table. Rezus looked down at it, a thick sneer forming on his lips.
“Honestly, that would be more convincing, don’t you think?”
Serdin’s face flushed red. Watching him, Rezus clicked his tongue and continued coldly.
“I know you’ve held feelings for Psyche for a long time.”
“…….”
“But even love games need to be played at the right time and place. Ah, no, this isn’t even a love game. I’m not even sure what to call this. Since it’s something you’ll always do alone, should I call it a one-sided love game?”
“Shut up.”
At that moment, with a loud crash, the table shattered. Serdin’s overwhelming force had finally broken it. But neither Rezus nor Serdin paid it any attention.
For a moment, their gazes locked in silence. Then, Rezus was the first to break it.
“Let’s be even more honest. You enjoyed it too, didn’t you?”
For a split second, Serdin’s eyes wavered. Without looking away, Rezus stood up from his chair. The remnants of the table that had been on his legs clattered to the floor. Kicking them roughly toward Serdin, Rezus continued slowly.
“You knew Psyche would never look at you no matter what you did, so you at least wanted her body. And you took it.”
Just as Serdin’s head dropped toward the shattered pieces, a piercing remark flew at him.
“What, now that you’ve had her body, you want her heart too? Is that why you’re acting like this?”
“…….”
“Don’t you think it’s disgusting, even to yourself, to act like this now?”
A heavy silence fell over the room. In the prolonged quiet, Serdin slowly raised his head.
“Yeah, I enjoyed it.”
The admission was so straightforward that it was almost unsettling.
“I wanted her body, and I took it.”
After a brief pause, Serdin took a step back from Rezus and added plainly,
“But now, I don’t want to do that anymore.”
“…….”
A cold stillness followed. Rezus let out a dry laugh into the air, then tilted his head slightly.
“And what, you’re going to protect her here instead?”
Serdin didn’t answer. Rezus’s lips twisted into a sneer.
“Psyche begged you, didn’t she? She pleaded so desperately, saying that even if everyone here forced her, she hoped you wouldn’t. I overheard it, and even I still remember her voice. You, who were there, must have it etched even deeper in your mind.”
“…….”
“Do you think she begged you like that because you were special to her?”
You idiot. Rezus scoffed mockingly.
“It’s because you were the easiest and most convenient target.”
“Ah—”
But Serdin showed no emotional reaction to the taunt. Instead, as if realizing something, he let out a delighted exclamation and tilted his head, chuckling softly.
“In other words, that means I am special to her, at least here.”
“What?”
“Being the easiest and most convenient target among a bunch of trash. Doesn’t that itself mean I’m special? I’m happy about it. But why does it seem like you’re jealous of that?”
“You bastard……”
Despite Serdin creating distance, Rezus closed the gap between them in an instant. The sound of table fragments being crushed under Rezus’s feet echoed sharply. It felt like something was about to explode at any moment.
Knock, knock. A knocking sound rang out, and the door swung open.
“Phrena’s awake. Are you two just going to keep at it like this?”
