Chapter 156
Zephyros forcibly pushed something into Psyche’s mouth. She wanted to spit it out, but lacking even that strength, she eventually swallowed it as he wanted. It must have been some kind of recovery potion, as shortly after swallowing it, warmth began to circulate through her body and her senses gradually returned.
“My poor sister, you must feel wronged to be treated like this…… but I’m actually being quite lenient with you.”
“…….”
“Ruon couldn’t even use the bathroom. But you get to use the bathroom, and I’m giving you recovery potions from time to time.”
“I’ll…… kill you.”
“Kill? You? Me?”
Instead of answering, she pushed him away with all her might. Surprisingly, Zephyros allowed himself to be pushed. Her body then collapsed weakly back onto the floor. Looking down at her quietly, Zephyros murmured softly.
“My poor, pitiful sister.”
“…….”
“My innocent, foolish sister…….”
A long silence followed. Suddenly, Zephyros moved. She thought he was leaving, but for some reason, he closed the door and stood before Psyche again.
“Still, since I’m your brother and you’re my sister…… you should know certain things.”
His voice echoed hollowly throughout the torture chamber filled with damp, unpleasant odors.
“Psyche, didn’t you find anything strange during the entire time you were held hostage? You know how much I cared for you……”
Her body, sprawled on the floor, suddenly stirred.
“But I didn’t care whether you were held hostage or not. I actually wanted to provoke those bastards even more.”
Pausing briefly, Zephyros tilted his head back and took a deep breath before exhaling. When his gaze returned to her, a cold sneer had formed at the corners of his mouth.
“I did that deliberately. I wanted those bastards to break you even more.”
“……What?”
She barely managed to lift her head to look at Zephyros. Though there was nothing wrong with her mind, somehow his words were difficult to comprehend. What exactly had she just heard? As she blinked blankly, Zephyros continued his cruel words.
“I saw it with my precognition. I knew that in the future, you would become stronger than anyone else. But even with such power, it seemed you wouldn’t kill Arje. Even though you lost our parents because of them…….”
The man’s dry, desolate eyes looked up at the ceiling, then fell weakly to the floor.
“If I were you, if I had that kind of power, I would have killed them all…….”
Hoo……. He cupped his face with both hands and slowly took a deep breath.
“……I wondered and wondered how to make you want to kill those bastards.”
After brushing his lips several times, Zephyros slowly tilted his head. He drove another nail into her heart, which had already hardened like plaster.
“Don’t you understand yet? I set it up so those bastards would kidnap and torture you.”
Thump. Something in her chest felt like it was shattering into pieces. Psyche asked, stammering like a fool.
“All of this…… was your scheme?”
Her voice trembled miserably, and both cheeks quivered.
“So that someday, when I manifested my power…… I would annihilate Arje……?”
“Yes.”
In that moment, it felt as if all the blood in her body turned cold. Her vision seemed to turn crimson. Regardless, Zephyros continued speaking without concern.
“I wanted you to realize. Those bastards aren’t humans, they’re animals that deserve to die.”
“…….”
“But you weren’t.”
“…….”
“Even after suffering like that, you still see those bastards as human.”
Clear hostility rose in Zephyros’s eyes. He spoke through gritted teeth, his voice suppressed.
“You are not Mathes.”
Then he turned his head slightly and let out a bitter laugh.
“I should have known from the moment you showed affection for those cattle.”
She could only open and close her lips like a goldfish. Was it because the truth was too shocking? No words would come out. Only tears flowed.
Even as she cried, she couldn’t understand herself. She already knew Zephyros was trash, so why on earth was she crying? She simply couldn’t comprehend herself.
She wanted to think there was nothing to be shocked about, that this was nothing at all, but her mind and body couldn’t manage it. Psyche felt her breath being cut off as she lost consciousness.
* * *
“……Syche, Psyche! Wake up……! Damn it, some healing ability……!”
“Don’t pressure me, can’t you see I’m pouring it into her right now?”
It felt as if her body was submerged in warm water. As consciousness gradually returned, she sensed a pure white light. Suddenly, her mind snapped awake. Unable to properly open her eyes, she gasped violently like someone just pulled from water.
“Haa, ugh, hic……, Serdin……?”
“That’s right, it’s me. Ha, Psyche, I’m sorry I came so late.”
She burrowed into Serdin’s arms like a baby seeking its mother’s embrace. Her body felt heavy, and each muscle burned with pain.
