Chapter 162
“Ah……. I see. That could be possible. Since there’s no one here, that could be possible.”
“…….”
“You’re very lonely, brother.”
He made an expression as if she had hit the mark. He had been a man highly skilled at controlling his expressions, but now he seemed unable to even think about doing so.
“But what should I do, this is the last day you’ll be able to see me, brother.”
“……”
“Sorry.”
She apologized to him insincerely in a sarcastic tone. Zephyros said nothing. He looked as if all his motivation had disappeared, and he didn’t even have the strength to utter another word. Seeing him like this, anger suddenly surged within her.
She had already anticipated that Zephyros would give up on life. But strangely, his appearance of living as if he couldn’t die made her blood boil. The corners of her eyes turned red with heat. Psyche suppressed the rising emotion and spoke deliberately.
“Look me straight in the eyes, this is something you must see, brother.”
She thought he would ignore her, but he didn’t. He lifted his eyes, which had been staring blankly into space, and met her gaze. In that moment, focus returned to Zephyros’s eyes, which had been like those of a dead fish, and then they gradually widened.
Through her eyes, Psyche showed Zephyros the story of the original novel.
She showed him everything—how much the female protagonist in the original work suffered from being r***d, and what happened after Psyche killed the family heads of Arje as Zephyros had wanted.
After manifesting her ability, Psyche killed all the family heads of Arje. Later, when enemy countries formed an alliance and invaded, she had the power to stop them but didn’t. She merely watched as the country was destroyed and the family heads of Mathes died. Ruon took his own life after assassinating the emperor, and she followed Ruon in ending her life.
That was the ending.
“Ah…….”
Zephyros let out a strangled moan. Tears streamed down his cheeks. She silently looked down at Zephyros, who could barely make a sound and only shed tears, then turned around.
As she opened the door and escaped from the prison-like mud house, tears flowed from her eyes. She couldn’t understand why.
“Psyche, ah, Psyche…….”
From behind came the sound of Zephyros howling like a beast, but Psyche did not look back.
She desperately needed a warm embrace. Psyche didn’t return home but headed to Serdin’s mansion. As soon as Serdin, who had been working in his office, heard from his servant that Psyche had come, he immediately rose from his seat.
Opening the reception room door hastily as if being chased, he twisted his face in distress at the sight of Psyche, who somehow looked drained of strength.
“Why do you look so troubled?”
“Serdin…….”
Psyche put down her teacup, abandoning her attempt to drink the tea. He strode over and gently held her cheeks in his hands, asking tenderly.
“What happened, hmm?”
“……I went to see my brother today.”
Serdin let out a low sigh. Then he pulled her strongly into his arms.
“……You’ve been through a lot.”
Being in his broad embrace seemed to provide some comfort. Psyche muttered weakly.
“He was completely broken…… But seeing him like that, far from feeling satisfaction, my heart just feels so……”
“How could anyone feel satisfied? It’s natural that you feel troubled.”
Familiar body scent, low husky voice, warm embrace. Psyche remained quietly in his arms for a long while. When she had calmed down somewhat, she raised her head. Their eyes met. As if that were a signal, the two closed their eyes and tasted each other’s lips.
Leaning against Serdin’s warmth, Psyche fell asleep.
Serdin gently caressed the cheek of Psyche, who was sound asleep in his arms. Over her face, which seemed free of any worry or concern, overlapped a delicate face that had suffered deep wounds. His gaze as he looked at her sank dampily.
Even after everything had been resolved, there were times when Psyche seemed unable to escape from the time when she was helplessly violated in the mansion. This was one such moment, and at times like these, Psyche sought Serdin’s embrace.
He let out a low sigh and held her even more deeply.
He wished her emptiness could be filled with something like this, but he knew it couldn’t be filled with just this.
He smiled bitterly.
