Serdin had a weakness for seeing vulnerability in others, and she was genuinely unwell right now. If she played this moment right, she might be able to raise his favorability significantly.

The quiet room was filled with the soft sound of water pouring. After setting the teapot down, Serdin handed Psyche the cup.

“Drink.”

Psyche accepted the cup without a word. Once again, their hands brushed, but this time, Serdin was the first to pull away. Pretending not to notice, Psyche sipped the water and slowly turned around.

Their eyes met at a very close distance. Serdin was leaning slightly forward, his hands resting on either side of the side table. Whether intentional or not, his posture left Psyche effectively trapped within his arms, unable to move. She lowered her gaze, tilting her head away.

“…You’re too close.”

Realizing the awkwardness of his position, Serdin flinched and stepped back hurriedly. He then snapped irritably.

“Why did you even come down here? If you were dying of thirst, you could’ve just shouted for some water instead of dragging yourself all the way here.”

Then anyone could’ve come and given it to you, instead of you stupidly dragging yourself down here, he muttered, scratching the back of his head roughly. Between the strands of his red hair, his ears were visibly flushed.

Psyche didn’t respond, silently staring down at the empty cup in her hands, her fingers gently tracing the handle.

“…Want me to pour more?”

She nodded. Serdin, now standing slightly farther from her, picked up the teapot.

“If you’re so weak that you can’t even lift this properly, just how feeble are you? I’ve never seen anyone as frail as you in my life,” he grumbled, his brow furrowing deeply as he poured her another cup of water.

Psyche drank slowly, her movements deliberate, and murmured weakly,

“Thank you…”

Serdin, in the middle of setting the teapot back in its place, paused abruptly. He glanced down at Psyche, his lips tightening visibly.

“…Do you have no pride at all? How can someone like you, after what’s happened…”

His words trailed off, and he didn’t continue.

The silence that followed felt heavy. Serdin, seemingly frustrated, ran his hands roughly over his face and tugged at the top of his tunic, shaking it in an attempt to cool himself down.

While this was happening, Psyche remained silent. She didn’t look at him. She just fixed her gaze somewhere on the floor, clutching her empty glass. Her posture was so precarious that it seemed she might break with the slightest pressure. Looking at her pitiful appearance strangely aroused his thirst. Serdin stiffened his neck.

Psyche Rosebel.

To say she was the most precious woman in the world would be no exaggeration. Noble blood and vast wealth accumulated through generations, outstanding beauty and gentle nature. Men acted as if they would give their lives just to hold her gaze for even a second. Women praised her beauty endlessly and strived to befriend her.

When Serdin had only heard rumors about her, he thought everyone had gone mad collectively. He might have thought something like, ‘who cares about some princess of Mathes.’

But when he saw Psyche smiling brightly, surrounded by people.

Serdin finally understood that such a person could exist in this world.

She was, truly, shockingly beautiful.

Her violet eyes sparkled mysteriously as if sprinkled with stardust, and befitting a golden princess raised in wealth all her life, her skin was fair and smooth. Her voice was elegant like harp strings. Her speech was so gentle that one might wonder if she’d ever raised her voice even once.

Listening to her speak was enough to make one’s ears tingle.

It was the first time such a perfect being had appeared in the world.

When gazing at the dazzling radiance emanating from her, it felt as though even if the entire world were steeped in misfortune, she alone would remain untouched by it.

In truth, Psyche lived a life far removed from misfortune, safely protected within a brilliantly fortified enclosure.

And perhaps, she could have lived her entire life in such luxury and happiness.

…If not for them.

Yes, if not for them.

Her parents wouldn’t have had to die.

…And the flower wouldn’t have been plucked.

Serdin furrowed his brow. His head throbbed, and his throat burned. It felt as if this strange symptom would subside only if Psyche disappeared from his sight.

“Haah, just go back to your room already…”

Suddenly, it felt as though he had seen something he wasn’t supposed to. He widened his eyes.
