“…Am I supposed to do it?”

“Of course.”

Roel rolled her eyes and swallowed hard before cautiously asking.

“But isn’t that the job of the mistress?”

Her careful question seemed to change Kyden’s expression. He blinked slowly, gazing into space for a moment before turning back to Roel, tilting his head slightly.

“So… I should… right? Uh, do you not want to?”

His hesitant tone made Roel curl her lips in confusion, and her eyebrows furrowed tightly.

Where in the world do people propose like this? Can this even be called a proposal? It felt more like an abrupt statement that she was the mistress.

She had been anxious about this topic for a while, trying to keep her feelings in check, and now, being treated as if she had been given the position of the mistress was quite bewildering.

‘We’ve never had that conversation before…’

What could she expect from someone who kept the fact that he knew her father a secret? Roel let out a deep sigh.

“I’ll think about it slowly.”

Only then did Kyden regain his composure. He realized that he had missed the right moment to propose, and the delay had been a mistake.

He had wanted to create a memorable moment in a nice place with a good atmosphere, but instead, he had ended up in the worst possible situation.

He wished he had said nothing at all. He should have entered the mansion, proposed seriously, and brought up the topic of her being the mistress. For someone as quiet as he was, making such a verbal blunder was no small feat. And yet, he had managed to do just that.

Feeling a wave of self-loathing, Kyden buried his face in his palms. Roel, glancing at him, stifled a laugh.

‘How adorable.’

How could she ever be mad at Kyden? He was just a little sulky.

He was her benefactor for returning her to her hometown. He had been a benefactor back in the cabin, and now he had done so once again.

So, she needed to comfort him quickly, but there was something cute about his flustered demeanor that made her want to watch him quietly.

It was amusing that a strong, robust man capable of easily overpowering her could look so lovable and cute. Roel rubbed her eyes in disbelief.

‘Maybe there’s something wrong with my vision.’

Kyden was put in charge of four villages, including Roel’s hometown. Although her hometown was the smallest of the four, inhabited only by shepherds and farmers, he chose to visit it first.

“Welcome, Sir Knight.”

As Kyden and his men entered the village, the village chief hurried out to greet them. Seeing the familiar face, Roel took a deep breath.

‘Grandfather Jorden!’

He was an elderly man who had always doted on her. Roel wanted to rush out to greet him warmly, but she held back, waiting for her turn.

“It’s good to see you. If there are any difficulties in the village, please feel free to tell me.”

Kyden exchanged pleasantries with the chief and turned to Roel.

“Roel, are you going to say hello?”

“…Y-yes!”

Roel shrugged her shoulders and walked forward. Jorden looked at Kyden with a puzzled expression before shifting his gaze to Roel. When he saw her, his eyes widened in surprise.

“Is that you, Roel?”

“It’s been a while, Grandfather Jorden.”

Roel wiped her tears with her sleeve as she greeted him with a bittersweet smile.

After Ron’s death, she had suddenly followed some relatives who appeared at the funeral and had now returned to the village wearing a beautiful dress, completely transformed. Jorden couldn’t help but be taken aback by the unexpected turn of events.

As the villagers began to come out, they recognized Roel and greeted her warmly.

“Roel? Is that really you?”

“It seems Roel has come back.”

“Come here! Roel is here!”

In a small village, everyone knows each other’s affairs closely.

Roel’s mother was a native of the village, while her father had happened to pass through and fallen in love with her, making Roel’s background common knowledge among the villagers.

As people gathered, Kyden proudly wrapped his arm around Roel’s shoulders.

“She is my wife.”

He emphasized the word ‘wife’, perhaps trying to make up for his earlier verbal blunder.

The village chief bowed his head respectfully. Even though Roel had been a commoner in the past, she was now the wife of a knight, deserving of respect even from the chief.

“Madam, it’s good to see you back. Do you know how worried this old man was when you left so suddenly? I’m truly relieved to see you’re doing well.”

Kyden introduced her as his wife, and the village chief used formal titles, leaving Roel unsure of how to respond, her palms open in surprise.

At that moment, Kyden leaned down and whispered in Roel’s ear.

“You’ll need to get used to this, Madam.”
