Chapter 25
Fortunately, the caterpillar seemed satisfied and detached itself when Heesu’s muscle pain healed. Heesu secretly hoped that the caterpillar, with its affection fulfilled, might transform into a handsome boy, but she was disappointed to hear that young demons couldn’t become humanized yet.
Whether it knew Heesu’s feelings or not, the caterpillar, which had been enthusiastically exploring by crawling around here and there in the room, soon settled on the rubber tree placed in the center of the living room. It seemed to like the large tree that felt like being in nature.
There was one more fortunate thing. The place where the demon had appeared this time wasn’t a mountain but an urban area.
It wasn’t in Heesu’s jurisdiction, so it was indeed a village in the outskirts quite far from home. After riding in the car Izzen drove for quite a while to arrive there, Heesu walked around for a long time searching for the demon.
“Is this really the right place, Izzen?”
Heesu asked whining after getting tired in an hour. Since her muscle pain hadn’t completely healed yet, walking was difficult. Actually, it was difficult even originally due to her terrible stamina, but it was even more difficult now.
“Definitely.”
“Then why isn’t it coming out?”
“It’s very timid and shy, so it seems to be hiding.”
“Timid and shy……!”
At those words, Heesu suddenly perked up and jumped to her feet. To be timid and shy—how small and fragile must it be to be like that? Imagining a small puppy whimpering and hiding in a corner, Heesu began walking energetically again. She wanted to quickly rescue that poor puppy and shower it with affection.
“Then rather than a main road like this, wouldn’t it be hiding in a secluded alley or something?”
The motivated Heesu pointed to a certain place with her finger.
As Heesu said, it was an alley that was not just secluded but looked somehow gloomy. It had the perfect gloominess for a demon to appear.
“That makes sense. Let’s look.”
Izzen and Heesu walked in that direction. Since it might be too small to see well, they carefully examined between trees, behind telephone poles, and even corners of walls. Still, no demon was visible.
Heesu muttered in a disappointed voice.
“I guess this isn’t the place…….”
“There are many alleys like this in the village. Let’s look for more places that give a similar feeling.”
“Just how small is it that we can’t see it like this…….”
Heesu was disappointed but didn’t give up hope. They continued to focus on their search.
The incident happened after they had searched through more alleys than could be counted on fingers.
“I’m sorry, Miss Heesu.”
Izzen, who had stiffened while looking around, suddenly apologized.
“Huh? What suddenly…….”
Heesu, who was tilting her head and looking in the direction Izzen was staring, discovered something on top of a wall and her eyes widened.
On top of the wall, some furry thing was sticking out. Plump and swollen, overall gray with only the tips dyed white—it was definitely animal fur. At first glance, it also looked like the rear view of a creature like a weasel.
“Oh my…….”
Heesu looked at it with excitement. Just seeing the fur already made it cute. But soon it swished and disappeared below the wall, making her immediately disappointed and sigh.
“What. It was just a dog’s tail……”
Heesu, who had spoken up to that point, stiffened. There was no way what Izzen was looking at tensely was an ordinary dog.
Besides…… was there a dog with fur of that color? If she had to choose something she knew, it resembled a Siberian Husky. But it was a bit more…… yes. Like, for instance, a wolf.
When her thoughts reached that point, Heesu quickly raised her head. The next moment, something like a wolf’s head popped out above the wall.
“Huh!!”
Heesu stepped back in surprise. No matter how she looked at it, it was a wolf. The magnificent and massive form she had only seen in documentaries like Animal Kingdom was there. In a village where people lived, no less.
“It’s too big!!”
Heesu was shocked. Looking at that sight, Izzen muttered as if ashamed.
“I’m truly sorry. Puppies grow much faster than I thought.”
“Puppyyyy?! When exactly was that thing a puppy?!”
“Well…… three months ago?”
“You son of a b***h!!”
The moment Heesu called someone a son of a b***h, the actual son of a b***h straightened its body. That is, it stood on two legs. Like a human.
Heesu was shocked again.
“It’s even a werewolf?!”
The werewolf turned its head as if hearing Heesu’s voice. Blazing blue beast eyes glared at Heesu eerily. Sharp teeth parted and made a threatening growling sound.
It was the very image of a threatening wild beast.
“Tra-transform……!”
Quickly taking out her compact and finishing her transformation, Heesu looked at the werewolf once more.
She had transformed, but she was so, so scared. Forget anger toward Izzen or anything—she just wanted to cry from fear. The demons she had faced so far were disgusting, but they hadn’t given her the terror of feeling like she’d be bitten to death at any moment, but to fight something like that…… how exactly?
“Was that thing really a puppy three months ago?!”
