Chapter 82
Heesu, who was too busy with her otaku activities, had long given up on her studies. She barely scraped by into a mediocre university after retaking her college entrance exams and couldn’t even dream of getting a scholarship there. Her graduation was even at risk. Her athletic ability was poor, and she had no special talents. Her personality wasn’t great either, and she was lazy. On top of that, she wasn’t very filial and didn’t really do anything for her parents. In fact, she was more often a source of worry for them.
So, from the perspective of a filial son like Jaeha, she must be a source of constant disapproval. He must get angry every time he sees her.
She felt she could understand that sentiment. She even inwardly sympathized.
But Jaeha didn’t know.
People say, “Just put in the effort,” but when someone like Jaeha is next to you from the starting line, you lose your energy before you even start running. No matter what Heesu tried to do, it was so insignificant compared to Jaeha’s achievements that it wouldn’t even show.
When was it? One day, Heesu came home excited with a report card showing she had moved up ten places in her class. That same day, Jaeha nonchalantly came home with a report card showing he was first in the entire country. Their parents were ecstatic, and not only their school but also the people in their neighborhood praised Jaeha every time they saw him. In that situation, no one cared about a report card that only showed a ten-place improvement in class rank.
Heesu was worn down by the helplessness born from these kinds of experiences.
Maybe she became an otaku to escape from that reality. She hated reality. Her daily life was terrible. She wanted to go to a fantasy world. She wanted to escape to the extraordinary.
But now, the very symbol of that reality was demanding that she return from her non-reality.
“Ugh, I really hate this…….”
Heesu let out an annoyed sigh and glared at her phone with resentment. She wondered why she had even answered the phone in the first place when she should have just pretended not to notice.
Carelessly, Heesu picked up her phone, turned on the screen, and her mouth fell open. There were dozens of missed calls recorded on her phone from when she hadn’t looked at it. They were all from Jaeha.
“That persistent bastard…….”
Heesu shook her head. This could only be seen as him being dead serious.
Of all people, she had to run into that Lee Jaeha. Because he was so full of filial piety, he would try to set her straight before their parents found out and got worried. He was pointlessly persistent, smart, and had many talents, so he might really find her and drag her back.
“Wow, what do I even do…….”
Heesu held her head and thrashed around before slumping back down and sobbing. It was true that once a real-world problem started, it never seemed to end.
“Master.”
As she was deep in despair, a shadow fell over her. She opened her eyes and saw Violen standing in front of the sofa, looking down at her. Heesu blinked and replied weakly.
“What?”
“I feel I should inform you of something.”
“What is it? Is it bad news? Could you tell me later……? My HP is already at zero…….”
“It could be good news, or it could be bad news.”
Heesu looked up at Violen, who sounded like a politician, with a puzzled expression.
“What is it?”
“Please look over there.”
Violen pointed a finger somewhere. It was toward the chrysalis on the rubber tree.
“Huk!”
Heesu jumped up in surprise, her eyes wide. It was no longer a chrysalis. Something was wiggling out from the top of the rolled-up leaf.
“Oh, oh!”
Heesu instantly forgot all her worries and ran toward it, cheering.
The chrysalis continued to wiggle. First, two black antennae popped out, and then a head with round eyeballs emerged. Next, the front legs came out, and holding onto the tree, the second pair of legs followed. The third pair of legs appeared, and the wings slowly began to pull free.
The wings were a crumpled mess from being inside the chrysalis, but they were already beautiful. Black patterns were intertwined with red, yellow, and blue. The butterfly busily wiggled its way out of the chrysalis, then slowly began to unfold its wings.
A myriad of colorful light burst forth. The wings, etched with delicate black patterns like a swallowtail butterfly, were a beautiful continuation of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple from top to bottom. It was as if a rainbow had been carved directly onto its wings. The colors alone were incredibly beautiful, but whenever they caught the light, they shimmered with a mesmerizing luster.
“My god…… it’s so pretty…….”
Heesu, moved by the beauty and the mystery of life, watched the scene with teary eyes.
The claim that this clan was renowned for its beauty in the demon world was no exaggeration. It was truly so beautiful. It was a sight so beautiful and even mysterious that she wondered if anything in the world could be more so.
She felt foolish for having secretly worried that the aesthetic standards of the demon world might be different from the human world. Well, if they were, these guys wouldn’t have been so good-looking, would they……?
