Chapter 97
Heesu finally cleared her throat and decided to change the subject.
“So, what were you all talking about?”
It was a remark made to change the subject, but she was genuinely curious. It was strange how well the demons were getting along these days, even without her.
Even Edstan and Rufus, who had snarled at each other so fiercely at first, were now calling themselves a “foot-alliance” and sticking together. Since they were always clinging to Heesu’s feet, they naturally talked a lot and seemed to have become close. Even Alburn, the butterfly demon, who she had worried wouldn’t get along well with others because he was quiet and shy compared to the other demons, had naturally joined them.
“Ah!”
At Heesu’s question, Alburn raised his head and said in an excited voice.
“People were eating something strange.”
“Strange thing?”
Alburn raised his hand, cupped his fingers to make a circle, and continued.
“Something shaped like this. White, round, fluffy, like a cloud…….”
“Ah~ Cotton candy?”
At that, Edstan burst out laughing.
“See? I told you it was cotton candy, didn’t I?”
“It wasn’t a flower?”
Alburn looked disappointed, his face crestfallen.
“Where in the world is there a flower that looks like that?”
“Doesn’t it look like cotton?”
“It’s too big for cotton, though.”
“I guess so……”
Heesu blinked, looking down at Alburn, who had pouted and fallen silent. Seeing that expression always made her heart ache. Heesu quickly squatted down, met his gaze, and smiled sweetly.
“Are you disappointed it wasn’t a flower, Alburn?”
“I was just happy to think that people eat flowers too…….”
“They do eat them. Like flower tea, or flower pancakes, or flower rice cakes…….”
“How do you eat those?”
“Uh, first, you heat them up…….”
“Heat them up…….”
Alburn’s wide pupils trembled. It seemed the fact that flowers were heated was shocking to him. Heesu, noticing this, quickly stopped her explanation and smiled brightly.
“And! Once you try cotton candy, you’ll lose all thought of disappointment!”
Alburn, whose trembling pupils steadied at Heesu’s confident voice, blinked.
“Why?”
“You’ll know when you eat it.”
“Isn’t it just a big candy?”
Rufus, who had been listening from the side, interjected. He spoke with the expression of a father scolding a child.
“If you eat all that candy, your teeth will rot!”
“No, it’s not like that. It’s not that kind of candy.”
“It’s not candy?”
“It is candy, but…… could you focus on the ‘cotton’ part rather than the ‘candy’?”
“Is it cotton?”
“Yes. The cotton is more important than the candy…….”
“Why would you eat cotton?! If you eat something like that, you’ll get a stomachache!”
Rufus’s expression grew even stricter. Alburn’s expression also became serious.
“So…… if you eat that, your teeth will rot, or you’ll get a stomachache.”
“No, it’s not like that. I said no…….”
Heesu waved her hands frantically, flustered. She felt cold sweat trickling down her back. She turned her head sharply to look at Edstan, who was just watching and laughing with an amused expression.
“Hey, don’t just stand there and watch. If your Master is struggling, help her. A little.”
“Seeing is believing, isn’t it?”
Edstan shrugged.
“Hmm…….”
Heesu, judging it to be a useful suggestion, despite being annoyed, finally stood up.
“Alright. Let’s go. Let’s go eat it first.”
But Alburn and Rufus were still serious.
“My teeth are precious…….”
“A stomachache hurts…….”
Heesu, unable to bear it any longer, finally yelled.
“Alright, if Master says let’s go, just follow!”
At that, Rufus and Alburn immediately jumped to their feet. It was an almost reflexive action. They were good examples of how sometimes a unilateral command is more effective than a gentle explanation.
“Let’s go, guys.”
Edstan, who was already standing and waiting, put on his sunglasses and led the way. Refusing to wear colored contacts, he always wore sunglasses when going out. Rufus adjusted his hat to keep his hair from scattering as they walked, and Alburn pulled down his hood. They were just simple actions, but given their looks, they seemed unnecessarily cool.
Because of that, the attention of the people, who had already been glancing at them, became focused.
Moreover, they were all wearing black tracksuits because they had just come from exercising together, which made them stand out even more. Now that Izzen was gone, there was no need to wear black tracksuits to exercise, but the habit they had picked up was terrifying. The fact that Izzen’s closet contained black tracksuits of the same design in various sizes was even more terrifying.
Sure enough, people whispered as they walked in a line, exuding an unusual aura.
“Wh-what is it? Are they doing a model walk?”
“Wow…… the park is a runway, a runway.”
“I don’t know what it is, but it’s really cool…….”
“Are they filming a movie?”
“They all look like actors, don’t they? Should we get their autographs?”
“I heard them talking earlier, something about ‘Master’……. Are they gangsters?”
“Oh, now that you mention it, their outfits are a bit…….”
“They’re gangsters, they’re definitely gangsters.”
“Wow. To think there are really gangsters with faces like that in the world…….”
“Then are they going to have a gang fight now?”
“My god. How scary…….”
People each spread their wings of imagination and whispered about them.
No one imagined that they were currently on their way to buy cotton candy.
