Chapter 18
Anyway, I showed him the dressing room, the living room, the kitchen, and even the attic that has now become my room in detail. I had a hard time stopping Mr. Idris, who said the attic looked too cramped and insisted we swap rooms back so he could use it instead. He said it makes no sense for the owner of the house to use the worst room? (Is it not usually the opposite? The Empire must have a different culture.)
Unexpectedly, Mr. Idris would not back down, which was flustering. I finally ended the long tug-of-war only after giving the rational reasons that I only use the attic because the forest view is nice, and more importantly, with his height, he would not be able to stand up straight in the attic, let alone sleep with his legs stretched out.
Mr. Idris seems to have a stubborn streak in strange places.
Sigh. In the midst of all this, I still cannot forget what happened yesterday evening.
I should have stopped when I heard his father was not around.
Why did I ask about his childhood when I know how illegitimate children are treated. It feels like my social skills have hit rock bottom from living alone.
Anathema Year 19, May 12th. Weather: Very Cloudy.
Mr. Idris claimed that since his body is fully recovered, he wants to do something. Whether it is a walk or work. Of course, I did not allow it. It would be a disaster if he fell ill again.
As a compromise, I worked hard to explain the range of my territory and the location of the cabin. When I described the forest surrounding the cabin and the valley in the middle of it with all my heart, Mr. Idris listened intently.
I explained that I had painted the trees that mark the boundary of my territory white and that he just should not go past them, and Mr. Idris nodded, saying he would keep it in mind. It was a bit funny seeing him being forced under the covers, listening so obediently.
As expected, he is amazingly good at distinguishing between what he can ask and what he cannot.
Whether it is the fact that there is a safe territory in these dangerous Black Mountains, a monster habitat and forbidden zone, or about me living here, and most of all, about my red eyes. He must have more than a few things he is curious about, but he is keeping a clever silence.
Since he is this smart, every day lately is so much fun.
Ah, it would be so great if I could keep him like this forever.
The sewing will not end. Someone save me.
It was easy when I was making my own clothes, but perhaps because I am not used to Mr. Idris’s clothes at all, the work is too slow. At this rate, I am going to end up making Mr. Idris wear the same clothes for days. No. As the daughter of a boutique owner, that is unacceptable.
Among the uniforms Mr. Idris was wearing, the trousers did not have any divine patterns or colors; I should have just repaired those and used them. I regret burning them all after only taking the patterns because they felt unsettling.
Anathema Year 19, May 13th Weather: Clear.
Ugh. I feel like my stomach is still turning.
Since I have been eating human food along with him for the past few days, this is torture. From now on, I will have to say I am a light eater and only have two meals. It feels like a waste to get rid of mealtime with Mr. Idris entirely because it feels like I would be missing out on building pleasant memories.
Today, I ignored Mr. Idris’s cries and made him lie back down in bed to rest. His insistence on being given even simple tasks was stronger than yesterday. Is this person not afraid he will get hurt while moving with a body that has barely recovered? I knew it from the moment he maintained his composure upon seeing me, but he really has no fear.
When I warned him that he might lose the use of his legs if he kept it up, he fortunately seemed to comply without further word. Until a moment ago, he had been itching to do something, but seeing him turn pale and lie down quietly in an instant was a bit funny.
It really hit home that a knight is a knight. They say they consider their body their greatest asset, and it seems he is the same.
Even though he refused my offers to read him books or sing him songs, I did not like how he could not fall asleep at all, so I debated whether to force him to sleep once more, but I decided against it. There seemed to be no need to force him to sleep again when he can even walk perfectly well.
Come to think of it, lately, I feel like I keep writing my diary only in the morning after the sun has risen the next day, but it is awkward to divide it into two days, so let us just write it roughly.
I trust that the future me reading this one day will figure out the time on my own.

I give up, I give up.
In the end, I entrusted Mr. Idris with simple tidying and dishwashing. I was surprised because he did the work much more skillfully than I expected.
Based on his appearance and the elegance in his conduct, I naturally assumed he had been raised as a noble, so it was unexpected. Even if he is illegitimate, it could be the case if his mother’s side is very wealthy.
After spending the last few days nursing and sewing and staying up all night, I am so sleepy. That is all for today’s diary.
Anathema Year 19, May 15th. Weather: Clear.
Today, I strolled along the forest path with Mr. Idris. I could no longer refute his strong claim that he was perfectly recovered.
I know. I know I have been forcing him to rest excessively.
But there was no helping it. I do not have a feel for how weak he is, so what could I do. It is better to make him rest fully than to overwork him.
Since he is so diligent and constantly wants to work, I will have to give him appropriate tasks. I will have to think about it seriously from now on.
No, anyway, how did Mr. Idris end up coming all the way here?
Could such a dutiful person really be a heinous criminal? No matter how much I think about it, unless he is a criminal with no place to go because he is wanted, he would not do something as suicidal as entering the Black Mountains.
The Black Mountains are publicly known as a habitat and breeding ground for monsters. It is so dangerous that the surroundings are tightly controlled, and it is also the border that divides the Empire and Orihen, so even an idiot could not wander in by mistake.
If someone crawled this far inside, it is one of two things. Either they are a crazy person who worships wicked things, or they were in a position where they were being hunted on a national scale and had nowhere else to run but here.
And since Mr. Idris is absolutely not the former, there is only one conclusion.
Seeing as he chose this place instead of exile even though it would be relatively easy for a knight to escape, he must have committed an incredibly great crime. It must be to the extent that they would chase him even if he fled to another country.
I am in no position to talk about others, so it is not that I find Mr. Idris unsettling, but I am just purely amazed. That a person who does not look like that at all could commit a crime so large that he is driven into a corner like this.
……Could it be a false accusation?
That is persuasive.
If that is the case, it makes me feel even more pity for him. To think he might die at a young age when he has done nothing wrong. Since he is a knight and handsome to boot, his life would have been a smooth road.
Hmm, yes, let us be good to him.

It would be nice if he could stay like this forever.
