Chapter 103
The road to the royal capital was pleasant. The weather had been good for days, and the road stretched on smoothly without a single bump. It was comfortable enough to read books or letters inside the carriage.
“Some people are so skilled that they don’t just read letters, they even write them along the way.”
I lifted my eyes from the book and glanced at the man seated beside me.
Danel’s violet eyes were carefully scanning through a letter. It was a document delivered by a messenger before the carriage had departed.
Since the journey began, he had already received dozens of such letters. It seemed there was quite a lot to settle before he could be granted the title of Viscount Ettore.
I watched him for a long while before shifting my gaze back down to the book.
I didn’t particularly enjoy reading, but there was little else I could do. Today, my only companion was far too busy.
Still, a book I hadn’t touched even at home wasn’t likely to hold my attention better on the road.
Unable to focus, I found myself rereading the same sentence several times before I finally gave up on the book. Instead, I turned toward the window, where the curtain was drawn halfway open.
The scenery outside wasn’t much different from yesterday. A clear blue sky, and the endless stretch of green plains.
It was a monotonous scenery, but still more interesting than the book.
How long had I been staring outside like that? My eyelids gradually grew heavy. The unchanging view seemed to lull me into drowsiness.
Danel carefully set aside the letter he had been holding. He must have noticed that I was on the verge of falling asleep.
Without a word, Danel wrapped an arm around my shoulders. Guided by his hand, I rested my head against his broad shoulder.
My eyelids, already heavy, closed on their own.
Even as I drifted half into sleep, I thought to myself:
So he must feel guilty, after all.
For tormenting me from dawn until daybreak.
Recently, Danel had been engrossed in acts quite different from before. He still put his mouth to my womanhood while I slept, but beyond that, much more relentless intercourse would follow.
Because of this, these days Danel and I often ended up overly aroused with one another. Especially Danel, who, for certain reasons, frequently lost his patience right around the moment of climax.
And besides… I wasn’t very skilled at refusing his advances.
When I accepted Danel in such a state of excitement, there were times when he would lose all control and come at me until dawn.
Like this morning, for example.
“How much farther until the royal capital?”
“It will probably take about another two hours.”
“Mmm… then we’re almost there.”
As I tried to open my eyes, Danel covered my eyelids with his palm. The shadow of his large hand fell all the way down to the bridge of my nose.
“Please rest a little, Laurea. I’ll wake you when the castle gates come into view.”
He gently brushed back my hair as if to lull me to sleep. It seemed he still remembered how I had once offhandedly said I wanted to see those enormous gates at least once.
But I immediately refuted him.
“Last time, you only ended up waking me when it was nearly noon. You promised you would wake me on time for our departure.”
“…”
Danel pressed his lips tightly together.
Even though we had been married for over two years, Danel still loved watching my sleeping face. Because of that, he rarely woke me when I was in a deep sleep.
Today as well, Danel had let me oversleep. As a result, I only woke up long after our originally scheduled departure time.
And that’s exactly why, instead of reaching the townhouse by now, we’re still on our way to the gates of the royal capital.
Thus, I had more than enough reason not to believe Danel’s words. Danel, too, no longer tried to coax me into a nap.
But the real enemy turned out to be none other than myself.
How long had I been staring at the same scenery? Blink, blink. The view before my eyes would darken, then return, over and over.
I can’t fall asleep like this… If I want to ease even a little of Ireneo’s whining about the picture book showing only vague drawings of a huge castle and its roads, I need to see them with my own eyes…
But the smooth road, the gentle weather, and the lingering aftermath of the relentless s*x that had lasted long after dawn kept trying to pull me back into slumber.
Then, suddenly, the carriage jolted.
My body shook violently with the movement. My head tipped forward, and I collapsed straight into Danel’s arms.
“…Haha.”
I heard the sound of Danel’s laughter above my head, and then he gently drew me into his embrace.
“Sleep a little more. I’ll hold you the whole time.”
So now he doesn’t even bother to promise to wake me.
Even as I thought that, I burrowed into Danel’s arms. My consciousness naturally sank into the depths of sleep.
