Chapter 293
Ysaris genuinely thought she had misheard. Or perhaps Kazhan had lost his mind.
No—admittedly, in the early days of their marriage, tangled in mutual misunderstandings, there had been moments she’d wanted him dead…
Kazhan’s voice cut through her thoughts, sharp and intrusive. Again, his words assumed she’d come to kill him.
Kazhan’s head tilted slightly, still hovering above the ground. Those red eyes, though convinced of her malice, swept over her slowly—cold, detached, devoid of resentment.
His flat tone made Ysaris realize, Kazhan believed himself already dead. And yet, he’d still assumed she’d come to kill him.
Where did everything go so wrong? The sheer absurdity left her numb.
Kazhan didn’t answer. He just stared, unreadable.
Ysaris’ chest tightened. He must have questions—why won’t he ask them? Does he even believe me?
Kazhan finally spoke again, eyelids lowering as if savoring the phrase.
The conversation kept slipping sideways. Ysaris frowned. Their assumptions were rooted in entirely different realities—no wonder their words refused to align.
Kazhan seemed to notice too. One brow arched, then fell. His next words were brutally direct:
Ysaris choked on silence. The doubt she’d felt moments ago—Is waking him truly for his sake?—left her with no rebuttal.
But then what? If Kazhan refused to wake, what was she supposed to do?
She’d moved heaven and earth to save him, only to hit an unexpected wall. Even if he wouldn’t wake, she still needed to find a way out of this place…
Ysaris shuddered, hugging her own arms. She couldn’t tell if she wanted to hear his next words or silence him forever.
Kazhan remained indifferent. His voice was monotonous as he concluded.
His red eyes fixed on her, watching her flinch with something akin to curiosity.
His calm gaze stole her breath. The situation spiraled so perfectly against her intentions—and Kazhan, so effortlessly accusatory, made her heart ache with bitterness.
