Chapter 3.19
Caitlyn panted.
“I saw Princess Adelheid’s…… future. Just as Your Grace told me to see…… I saw it. And yet…….”
He naturally grew tense at her words, which were becoming incoherent as the heat intensified. He had not yet regained any of his power. Naturally, even if Caitlyn suddenly fell seriously ill and took to her bed, he wouldn’t know her future, nor could he cure her.
‘To die…… so senselessly like this?’
How could humans die so easily? Though he had lost his power, he was not human, and as someone who had never even suffered a minor illness, it was a strange thing to Roxias. But that strange thing did not feel strange at all right now. On the contrary, he felt like he was going crazy with anxiety. After searching for such a long time, he had finally found her. But…… he couldn’t let her go like this.
“Let go.”
Roxias commanded sternly, but he could not pull away Caitlyn’s hand that was gripping his sleeve. Because her thin, sweat-soaked hand looked so weak, and he feared that if he forced it away, he might break a bone. So, he had no choice but to repeat what he had said.
“I said, let go.”
“I don’t want to.”
Caitlyn shook her head. Her usual dignified appearance was nowhere to be found; she now looked like a throwing a tantrum like a child.
“Only Your Grace…… only Your Grace can help…….”
Roxias was at his wit’s end. He could just go out and call a doctor while being held like this. But for some reason, he could not bring himself to pull away from Caitlyn.
“……Help with what.”
“I don’t know how or why, but…… Princess Adelheid becomes the Empress. And a war, I saw a great war breaking out…….”
Caitlyn looked up at Roxias with feverish eyes.
“Your Grace can stop it. You have that kind of power!”
Roxias was momentarily lost for words. It wasn’t because he had just heard a request that was difficult to grant. A powerful sense of déjà vu was washing over him. The two princesses who were said to be the most beautiful in Troy and Greece.
One pushes Troy into war, and the other tries to save Troy from that fate. Of course, the winner was the former. Because fate loves destroying more than protecting. And this time likely wouldn’t be much different.
“……I will call a doctor.”
Unfortunately, Cathy was excessively stubborn. To the point where she would try to get an agreement even while harming herself.
“Your Grace must promise me. If I return your power to you, that you will stop Princess Adelheid…….”
“You and I have already made a deal. There was no such condition then.”
“Yes. But…….”
Caitlyn was lost in thought for a moment.
“You like my body.”
“…….”
Roxias could not find the words to answer for a moment. It wasn’t because she had stated it so shamelessly. It was because she was right. Yes, Caitlyn Hardick had a body that anyone would covet. It meant that the reason he had readily embraced her wasn’t simply because of his power.
And playing along with her obvious move was also like that. But, for Caitlyn herself to know that and try to exploit it was a completely different matter.
‘That won’t do.’
So Roxias deliberately denied Caitlyn’s words.
“It seems your head has gone strange because of the fever. The only reason I share my body with you is for the power.”
Caitlyn chuckled. Seeing her display behavior she would never normally show, she really seemed half out of her mind.
“Yes. And I suppose the fact that you lust after me time and again, completely unrelated to regaining your power, is also because of the power.”
“……I simply embraced you again since I was already embracing you. Do you have a complaint?”
“I wonder?”
Caitlyn smiled languidly.
“It doesn’t seem particularly bad…….”
“……I don’t know what I’m doing with a sick person.”
Roxias really tried to go outside this time. He felt like something even bigger would happen if he left Caitlyn like this.
“Don’t go, Your Grace…….”
This time, Roxias’s feet wouldn’t move even though his sleeve wasn’t being held.
“I don’t want to be alone.”
“It’ll only be a moment. I’ll be right back.”
“No.”
Caitlyn answered firmly.
“Everyone said that and left me. Except for Edward. But that boy will leave me soon too…….”
