Chapter 24
Chapter 24
Milana bit her lip, her face flushing. Playing in her head was the long night of pleasure they’d shared. The hours of skin against skin, sharing body heat. The night spent matching their most secret places, sharing sensations at the extreme. When she closed her eyes, she crumpled under the pleasure Bova gave her. When she opened them, his face was so close she didn’t know what to do with herself. His low voice stitching her name into her ear like some strange spell. Her earlobe burning hot. Her brain going sticky.
Just replaying the memory made her chest ache and her body tingle. Longer than the first time. More relentless. Somehow far more embarrassing…
Keep doing that?
“You can do it, right?”
Vladimir, completely blackened now, smiled brightly and viciously, his eyes curving into crescent moons. Not a trace of the Bova she remembered remained.
But she knew. The warmth she’d felt overflowing from him last night was the same as Bova’s. The hand that laced between her fingers was just as big, just as rough, just as warm as Bova’s.
He was Bova.
Dazed, unconsciously, Milana moved her head.
“Ha—”
Vladimir let out a hollow laugh, then irritably swept his fallen bangs back. In the shadow his hand cast over his face, his violet eyes churned like deep pools.
“You’ll do it?”
Friends who have s*x?
He spat the words out like he was chewing them up. Full of frustration and rage.
Anyone would say those words didn’t belong together. But Milana pressed her lips shut. What choice did she have? She didn’t care if it was selfish. She really, truly didn’t want to lose Bova. And Vladimir’s body was in pain from the magic. Was she strange for thinking she’d do anything to keep things the way they were?
A mage’s brain, trained to accept even ideas that defied common sense as long as the logic held, somehow swallowed this strange dissonance too.
Unbelievable. This was the conclusion? Vladimir covered his face with both hands and ground his teeth. His violet eyes blazed through the gaps between his fingers. Like flames burning in hell.
“Fine. Let’s do it. Friends.”
Let’s be friends who have s*x.

“Boss!”
The superior he’d been waiting for, neck stretched thin, finally appeared. Bam! He kicked the door open with gusto.
The scarred man, who’d been nursing his fifth cup of morning coffee while plagued by some nameless anxiety, shot up from his seat. At that moment, the heavy door that had taken the brunt of Vladimir’s venting kick split in half with a crash and collapsed to the floor.
Veins bulging at his temples. His forehead deeply creased. Jaw muscles taut. A violent aura that suggested he’d shoot at the slightest provocation. This was a side of him the scarred man hadn’t seen in a long time. Ever since being marked as the next boss, his education had emphasized reason over emotion, judgment over rage. It had played a big part in shaping him into the ideal leader. So the scarred man…
“The f**k are you looking at.”
…hadn’t seen Vladimir this far gone in a very long time. A good ten years. Sure, he occasionally lost his mind over his one-sided love, but he always held the final line.
‘He just hid it with training. His true nature never changed…’
The scarred man, realizing something new, stammered out a question. It seemed… that ominous feeling had been right on the mark…
“Did something happen?”
“Shut up. Get out.”
The scarred man closed his mouth under that glaring look, his filthy temper on full display. So he really did screw something up…
Well, stalking Milana was his main job anyway. Finding out what happened between them was only a matter of time. Better to figure it out himself than poke at a boss whose eyes had rolled back in his head. The scarred man turned to leave.
“I won’t be coming back to this room for a while. Just so you know. And the tailing work on Milana is suspended too.”
“What?”
“My angel said it creeps her out too much. Shouldn’t I oblige her?”
“Th-Then Miss Milana’s escort duties…”
“No need for that either. I’ll be stuck to her side day and night.”
“What?”
He wasn’t even coming back to his own room… and day and night? Don’t tell me…
There was only one conclusion. But Vladimir’s face right now did not look like a man who’d fulfilled a long-cherished dream. It looked more like a guy who’d been dumped and was firing off hysterics in every direction.
“And before you go, clean up those photos and stuff…”
Vladimir, growling like he was possessed, suddenly cut himself off. His eyes, reddened with rage, swept over the photos and twisted in a subtle way.
“…No. I’ll handle it myself. Get out.”
