Calix repeated, as if he hadn’t heard her. Lea, unable to answer again, lowered her head deeply.

Seeing her reaction, Calix confirmed that what he’d heard was true.

In front of his furious outburst, Lea couldn’t keep her wits about her. He had never lost his temper with her like this before, not even in the past. He usually just ignored her and walked on.

This was the first time Lea had seen Calix so angry with her. Her fingertips grew cold, and her body trembled beyond her control.

She was terrified he might say he never wanted to see her again. She was so scared she couldn’t even meet his eyes.

But then he noticed something was wrong with Lea. He thought she was crying, but her breathing was far too rough.

Calix hurriedly scooped up her prone body.

“What’s wrong?”

Lea was panting far too heavily. Her face was drenched in tears, and her ragged gasps looked frighteningly unstable.

“Get a hold of yourself.”

He tried patting her back and speaking to her, but it was useless. Realizing how serious it was, Calix shouted toward the hall.

“Get the palace physician immediately!”

He hugged her tightly as she shook, thinking it would be faster to go himself, and ran out to the drawing room, where he ran into Rose coming in.

“Pardon me!”

Rose instantly assessed Lea’s condition, covered her mouth with her hand, and whispered gently,

“Slowly, exhale, slowly…”

Rose skillfully soothed Lea, gently pulling Calix aside.

She laid Lea properly on the bed, opened the front of her negligee, and continued to guide her in taking slow, deep breaths.

Gradually, Lea’s breathing returned to normal. Calix, sweating with anxiety, could do nothing but watch helplessly at her side.
