Calix, who had been going in and out of the command tent as if he were about to take some action, didn’t give any additional orders to the soldiers. Only the upper ranks were moving busily, especially Derek, who was the busiest of all, moving according to separate orders given by Calix.

Because of this, Lea was anxious and felt as if her insides were burning. The northern front, which was the site of the first battle, had been the place where fierce fighting took place in the past. That was because the military strength of the Empire of Leonis was not to be taken lightly. Of course, the difference now compared to then was the morale and condition of their own troops.

Just as Lea, who watched Calix spend his time leisurely as if he were on a trip, was worried something might happen, it suddenly did.

“Enemy attack!”

“It’s an ambush!”

On a particularly dark night due to the crescent moon, the alarm announcing the enemy’s intrusion rang out loudly.

Lea, who had been sleeping in her tent, shot up in surprise. Since she had gone to sleep already dressed for battle, she just threw on her robe and rushed outside.

Torches moved busily as soldiers responded in perfect order to the enemy attack. From a distance, Lea spotted a werebeast she recognized from her past. It was a member of the lion tribe, who was using overwhelming strength to push through the soldiers, charging directly for the most lavish tent.

It seemed like he was targeting Calix, but unfortunately, the most lavish and luxurious tent in the area was actually Lea’s.

Realizing she was the target, Lea tried to flee in a hurry. Even though there were allies nearby, she acted on her own. It was an instinct she’d picked up in the past, since, back then, not even her allies had helped her.

“Tch, so the commander used a Guide as a shield and ran away? Is that how cowardly the leader of this unit is?”

Such words could only be said by someone who didn’t know how precious Guides were in the Cantabria Empire, since there was little exchange between Cantabria and Leonis.

The Cantabrian soldiers, hearing this, charged in with fire in their eyes. Even if their skills couldn’t match, it was a protective instinct to throw themselves to guard their Guide.

“Out of the way, small fry!”

The lion werebeast roared, his sword wreathed in flames as he swung it. As the sound of clashing swords rang out fiercely, a chilling voice was heard.

“Surely this guy isn’t the leader of the ambush team.”

Before she realized it, Calix had appeared in front of Lea and, using his wind ability, blew out the flames surrounding the lion werebeast’s sword as if extinguishing a candle.

Only then did the face of the lion werebeast, who had been howling triumphantly, turn pale.

“You captured every single one of them, didn’t you?”

To his low question, Zion, who appeared behind him, answered in a booming voice.

“Yes, Commander-in-Chief!”

“Don’t kill them, capture them.”

At the same moment Calix issued the order, he swept his arm wide. Then, wind shot between the tents, binding the enemy soldiers that Eric, Ilion, and the others had already subdued.

He bound the lion werebeast standing before him with his wind ability, then gathered all the ambushers together.

“Second Corps Commander, step forward.”

“Yes, sir!”

Without needing further instruction, Derek began probing the minds of the enemy soldiers.

It seemed there were no Espers of higher rank among the ambush team. As a result, there wasn’t much useful information to gain, but there was still some harvest. Derek obtained information about the enemy commander leading the northern front.

“We do not bow our heads! Kill us!”

While Derek was gathering information, the lion werebeast who had tried to strike at Lea a moment ago shouted loudly. The other werebeasts also began to yell.

“Cowards! Laying traps!”

“Just as expected, Cantabrians are truly despicable!”

Even after being captured, they seemed full of bluster, which made Lea uneasy. Werebeasts were a race that followed their instincts more than humans.

If they had felt truly overwhelmed by Calix’s ability, they wouldn’t be acting like this. Lea could confirm that the same person as in her past had become the enemy’s leader.
