Chapter 162
Having developed the ability to harden parts of his body, Ilion had since focused his training on close combat instead of swordsmanship.
When he kicked, he reinforced his calves, and when he punched, he strengthened his fists, skillfully using his new ability.
When the enemy commander tried to use lightning again, Zion gave an order to a nearby water Esper.
“Douse the enemy commander with water!”
“…Huh? Y-Yes!”
All the Espers with water abilities poured water over the enemy commander’s head at once. Some even used their water powers to attack.
“Tch, how annoying.”
The commander summoned a bigger lightning bolt toward those using water powers than before. With a rumble, lightning struck them with a flash.
But Zion was faster. He cut off the commander’s arm.
“Argh!”
It was revenge for the one who had snapped his fingers and summoned lightning before. Zion stepped on the fallen leader’s neck, blood spurting like a fountain.
He pressed down with all his strength, nearly suffocating him.
“Leader!”
As Ilion dodged the attacks and launched ice attacks of his own, one of the subordinates shouted.
“Retreat immediately!”
The enemy leader, his voice hoarse as if he would cough up blood, gathered the last of his strength to summon a bolt of lightning directly from the sky. It was a technique he rarely used due to the huge energy cost, so his face turned pale.
With a tremendous roar, a giant yellow bolt of lightning fell onto the Cantabrian camp.
But even this desperate attack failed. Calix approached at a leisurely pace, but spread a wide barrier with his wind ability, protecting the camp.
“Are underhanded tricks just second nature to you?”
If the enemy had attacked head-on, he would have faced them properly, but since they’d resorted to a cowardly sneak attack again, he felt no desire to show mercy. He killed everyone except the key figures.
He didn’t do anything especially grand. He simply turned the wind into blades and cut down the enemy soldiers frozen by Derek’s powers.
Fwoosh—
Where the wind blades passed, blood spurted like a fountain.
“Argh! You bastards!”
Seeing this, the Leonis commander lost his mind and tried to rush forward, but Zion was faster. He struck the enemy leader’s head with his sword hilt, knocking him out.
He thought Calix might want to keep him alive.
After working together for some time, they could understand each other’s intentions without words.
“It was so noisy, Lea nearly woke up.”
Calix grumbled irritably as he approached and checked the unconscious commander’s face.
“Lightning, huh. That’s a pretty annoying power.”
Calix muttered briefly, then after gathering his thoughts, issued an order.
“Second Corps Commander.”
“Yes, Commander-in-Chief.”
“Take the survivors and interrogate them. Extract all the information they have.”
“At your command!”
Having lost their comrades and with their leader in crisis, one remaining enemy soldier froze as he realized what Calix meant.
They realized all too late that Derek had been controlling their minds, but they were all soon captured and couldn’t think further. Including their leader, they were all dragged off to the barracks with the other Leonis soldiers.
Lucy had watched everything from behind the supply tent. The enemy’s skill was higher than expected, and they seemed to possess unusual abilities, which piqued her curiosity.
Of course, even if it wasn’t curiosity, she intended to watch everything.
Because she had been given an ‘order’.
“Are the supplies intact?”
At Calix’s question, a soldier who had quickly checked the inside of the supply tent came to report. He pointed to an area that had been destroyed by lightning.
“Some were lost in the fire, but it was a small amount.”
“Change the location of the supply tent. Assemble a small unit and have them scout the surrounding area.”
At Calix’s command, the soldiers moved quickly. They remembered how the massive lightning that fell like a natural disaster had been blocked and dispersed by the transparent barrier.
They felt they were beginning to truly understand the real power of their Commander-in-Chief.
