Chapter 53
She hadn’t planned to lie to him from the start. Right after falling from the tree and injuring her ankle, when an angry Viern came to see her, Diana was gripped by the fear that this time he was truly furious.
‘I promised not to climb to high places, and now I’ve gotten hurt like this.’
Diana looked down at her ankle, thickly wrapped in bandages, with a pitiful expression. He was somewhat overprotective when it came to her health. She knew he had been receiving reports on her condition even after leaving her by the lakeside that day. But having already been scolded harshly for the lakeside incident, she really didn’t want to face his anger again now. Even for someone as shameless as her, it was because she loved him.
No woman enjoys being scolded by the one she loves. Even the so-called infamous, shameless Princess knew what love was. Diana Rosenheir was a person who understood love like anyone else, a woman who could also be hurt because of that love.
‘Ah, whatever. In times like this, just play dumb.’
So, in an attempt to buy time until his anger subsided, Diana pretended to remember nothing. But things escalated. The fact that she had lost her memory made him even more furious!
‘Huh? Seems like he’s even angrier now…?’
Sweating bullets internally at the thought of the disaster she’d caused, she outwardly tried her best to mimic an innocent expression, just blinking her eyes wide. Then, in his escalating rage, Viern declared he would strip Aisen of his position as the Princess’s personal knight.
‘What? No way! Aisen is the easiest guy to order around. What will I do without him?’
Aisen Erkman, the youngest son of the Ducal House of Erkman, was, as all palace servants acknowledged, Diana’s official pushover. His naive and simple nature meant he couldn’t fight back against the Princess’s bullying and could only flee pitifully. If the Princess ordered it, even if it was illegal, he would silently carry it out. It wasn’t due to any particular feeling of devotion towards Diana. He simply acted without thought because following his liege’s command was a knight’s duty.
It was already going to be inconvenient enough to keep up the act of having lost her memory and fooling everyone. Losing Aisen would make things extremely difficult. So, Diana summoned the most pitiful voice she could muster to defend Aisen.
“I heard Sir Aisen saved me. So…”
But in that moment.
‘Huh?’
This time, a stupid expression formed on her face without her even intending it. The slight twist of his handsome brow, the voice that seemed warped by some dark emotion, and the subtly sharpened tone that only she could detect.
‘This. Could it be…’
It was clear. The emotion contained within that twitching, distorted expression was unmistakably ‘displeasure.’
‘Perhaps. Just perhaps…’
And so it began from that moment. Her deception, started with tear-filled eyes to provoke Viern’s possessiveness.
“I think… I’ve fallen in love at first sight. With Aisen, Your Grace’s youngest brother.”
Diana, who had hidden her true self so expertly that she became Viern’s chess piece, making him believe he had tamed her, even though she could have left the palace anytime, could just as easily play the part of a girl in love. It wasn’t difficult. She just had to say Aisen’s name while thinking of Viern in her mind.
“I think… I’ve fallen in love with him.”
Just thinking of him was enough to soften Diana’s face into that of a girl in love.
Her initial goal had been to provoke his possessiveness. Diana remembered the tower warden who would fly into a rage when the puppy Coco wagged its tail for her. For the past three years, she had been a perfect ‘possession’ of his. If she, now belonging to another master, he would undoubtedly want to reclaim her.
It seemed quite effective. At first, Viern was wary of Aisen, but soon he began scrutinizing every man she laid eyes on.
When she brought male prostitutes from the streets into her bedroom, he cornered her as if punishing a beast that had forgotten its master. When she was alone in a closed space with some marquis’s heir whose name she couldn’t even remember now, he finally crossed that last line he himself had drawn, shattering the thick wall he had built up over so long.
The moment his hot shaft parted and invaded her below, the thrill outweighed the pain. The thought of finally being connected, becoming one with him, sent a shiver of pleasure that made every hair on her body stand on end. She wanted him to move quickly, but he kept hesitating, checking on her condition. Though impatient, she couldn’t reveal her true feelings, so she tried hard to act scared.
‘…!’
Then, a jolt so strong it seemed to stop the world washed over her. He kissed her. The man who had resisted all her tricks for three years was the one to press his lips to hers first. In that moment, even Diana froze in surprise. Her mind reeling from the hot flesh exploring her mouth, she clumsily followed his lead in the kiss. Meanwhile, his shaft, firmly filling her below, began to move slowly.
