Chapter 106
Because they’d known each other for so long, both of them thought married life would be nothing but smooth sailing.
That was a naïve assumption—and rather arrogant, too.
“I did knock, Lilien.”
“You might have knocked, but I didn’t answer. Why would you come in if I didn’t respond?”
“You never answer. So when am I ever allowed to come in?”
“Well, that’s….”
The truth was, Lilien had shut herself away in her room for days, with no intention of coming out. Only Matilda, her maid, was allowed to enter from time to time; everyone else had been told to leave her alone.
Once the doctor’s ‘optimal dates for conception’ had passed, Cairn found himself pathetically abandoned.
“So, your maid gets a pass, but I don’t?”
“What if I was changing clothes? It would be awkward for both of us.”
“Awkward?”
He couldn’t help but find her logic ridiculous. He’d already seen every inch of her body, kissed every corner—why bother being shy now?
“What’s awkward at this point? We’ve already seen everything there is to see.”
“It’s just… broad daylight feels awkward. And I need my privacy, too.”
“Privacy?”
He’d hoped marriage would loosen her up a bit, but Lilien still clung to her secrets. Being husband and wife had only given Cairn better insight into the count’s household finances and their s*x life—nothing more.
“You’re not hiding anything from me, are you?”
Nervous, Lilien fiddled with the keyhole on her desk drawer. She had no idea that her anxious little habit was only making Cairn more suspicious.
When he reached for a piece of paper she hadn’t managed to hide, Lilien quickly flipped it over.
“Don’t look!”
She hurriedly circled the desk, wedging herself between him and the papers.
“What are you doing right now?”
“Just… please leave.”
Lilien tried to push him away, her tone halfway between a request and a command, but he didn’t budge.
“Lilien, you can’t just shut yourself in here. Don’t you have duties as the lady of the house?”
“My… duties?”
She blinked rapidly, thinking hard.
“I set the operating budget for supplies and gave it to Jeffrey.”
“There’s something even more important than that.”
* * *
The thick velvet curtains that Lilien insisted on were a perfect barrier. With the gas lamp turned off, the room was pitch dark—no reason to be embarrassed, even in broad daylight.
Lilien sat half-perched on the edge of her desk, which was just above waist height. Her skirt was pulled up and spread across the wide surface.
“Ah…!”
Cairn gripped her slender wrist, his hand steadying her as he moved his hips in slow, circular motions. The tip, which had been sliding in and out, shifted direction and pressed deep.
“Ahn… ngh…”
Lilien tried to squeeze her thighs together, but all it did was wrap her legs tighter around his waist. There was no way to close herself off.
Though her body hadn’t fully recovered yet, and her tender skin still stung a bit, Lilien couldn’t help but let out a high-pitched moan.
“S-stop…”
At her command, Cairn really did stop, pulling out in one quick motion.
“As you wish.”
They’d already climaxed once before, so a mix of his seed and her own fluids oozed out at the entrance. When Lilien shifted, she could feel the sticky dampness beneath her.
“Lilien, you trust Dr. Marceau’s advice, right?”
Dr. Marceau had said that with irregular cycles, it was hard to pinpoint ovulation, so frequent and regular intimacy was best. Lilien hadn’t wanted to pressure Cairn, so she’d kept that information to herself.
But somehow he’d found out, and now used the doctor’s advice as an excuse to torment her.
They’d started out arguing, but somewhere along the way, Cairn had suddenly lifted her skirt and pushed her hard against the desk.
“You seem pretty conflicted right now…”
He stroked her sensitive folds with his fingers, and even that light touch made her entrance flutter eagerly, opening and closing on its own—a sensation so vivid it was embarrassing.
“Should I really stop here, just like you said?”
Swallowing hard, Lilien glanced down. She was wet, and Cairn was clearly in a similar state, but he acted as if nothing was out of the ordinary. Even the way he brushed back his sweaty hair was annoyingly relaxed.
Then Cairn let his curved finger drift lower, hooking just inside her entrance, tracing slow circles.
“Nngh—”
