Of course, the glowstone lamp was in Dehart’s hand in an instant.

“It’s better if I hold this.”

The words that were tinged with a hint of coldness, made Dehart blink in surprise. When he lowered his gaze, Sebelia was staring at him with a blank expression. He clicked his tongue in frustration and quickly added,

“I’m taller, so my light reaches further… you’re shorter, so…”

“Do as you like.”

Sebelia said indifferently as she pulled her cloak tighter and walked over to Claude. Dehart stared at her back for a moment, then irritably glared at Claude.

“Who… Ugh, honestly.”

Feeling the sharp stare, Claude quickly realized who was glaring at him as though they wanted to kill him. He let out a scoff.

Claude, with Karl Appenz’s face, looked as though he was about to lecture Dehart.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“What’s wrong with my eyes?”

His mocking voice had a sharp edge to it, which made Claude furrow his brow in disbelief.

‘Is this because we didn’t go straight to the lab?’

Before leaving the tent, Claude had opposed Dehart’s idea of heading straight to the lab. The distance from the valley to the base of the mountain would take an entire day. They couldn’t push through that kind of trek with two patients.

Watts had agreed with him, and Sebelia had also supported the idea of staying in the city before heading to their next destination.

‘What a narrow-minded guy.’

No wonder Sebelia pretended to be dead and ran away. Claude sighed deeply, knowing Dehart would get even more upset if he heard it. Dehart’s mood soured, but before he could say anything, the prepared knights approached and bowed lightly.

“We’re ready, Your Grace.”

“…Alright. Let’s go down.”

“I’ll carry the lamp.”

“Don’t do anything unnecessary. Just do your job.”

Dehart shot a dissatisfied glance at Claude as he passed the knights. The narrow rocky path connecting the valley and the forest had widened enough for three people to pass comfortably now.

This was all thanks to Eli’s resourcefulness, pushed by Dehart’s relentless urging.

“Other people can take care of themselves. Make sure Miss’s safety is your priority.”

Dehart said this without looking back. Sebelia widened her eyes, while the two men frowned in response. The knights shouted a loud “Yes, Sir!” despite not understanding it.

Soon, the eerie darkness enveloped them. It was becoming almost familiar. Dehart held the lamp and observed the front calmly.

It’s really almost over now.

Once Sebelia’s treatment was completed, Dehart knew there was no way he could remain by her side for much longer, no matter what trivial justification he used. He moved forward, enduring the burning frustration inside him.

I wanted to stay a little longer.

The expression slipped out of him without thinking, and he swallowed the regret that followed and bit his lips. The hand holding the lamp felt weak.

When Sebelia returned to Suffredi with the group, her steps faltered as they headed not to an inn, but somewhere else. Dehart’s firm demeanor left her no room to ask questions.

The place they arrived at wasn’t an inn; it was the official residence that Baron Suffredi offered to guests or diplomatic delegations. Standing in front of the wide and elegant hall, Sebelia noticed Dehart clearing his throat behind her.

“Ahem, ahem.”

When Sebelia’s blue eyes turned to him, Dehart seemed to relax and hesitated before speaking.

“Go in and rest. I have things to take care of.”

Dehart’s voice was mixed with an odd tenderness. He turned to leave the residence, but just as he did, Sebelia grabbed his wrist.

“Ah.”

The action was unconscious. As she faced him, she realized what she had done.

Without thinking…

She had grabbed him without realizing it when he tried to leave, just like when he was about to leave the tent. Sebelia bit her lip in embarrassment. Dehart stood silently, looking down at her before glancing around.

People passing by were watching them closely. They were the servants working in the residence. Dehart, sensing their attention, lowered his voice to speak to Sebelia.

“It’s an honor to serve you, Your Grace.”

A woman walked out from across the wide hall, crossing the garden. She was a black-haired woman, exuding dignity and grace.

“As per my father’s instructions, I have made sure everything is to your liking. I hope it meets your expectations.”

She was Licia Suffredi, the daughter and heir of Baron Suffredi.

With a single movement, she captured the attention of the room. When her gaze turned from Dehart to Sebelia, there was a fleeting look of disapproval in her emerald eyes.

“And this person is…?”

Her cold voice whispered in Sebelia’s ear.
