By the time night fell and morning came, Dehart had not returned to the residence.

“I think he’s staying there.”

“Really?”

“I think he mentioned it might take a few days.”

After hearing the news from Claude, Sebelia’s blue eyes grew cold and distant.

You’re acting recklessly again, even though your body hasn’t fully recovered yet.

Because Dehart had imposed a silence order regarding the events in the valley, Sebelia and the others at the lab believed the incident had simply been caused by accidentally disturbing the sacred relic.

Sebelia, who was unaware that Henkit was the main cause of the accident, furrowed her brow at his carelessness. Dehart had yet to remove the tiny fragments still lodged in his wounds.

I should have just restrained him yesterday.

Sebelia clicked her tongue in regret and glanced at Claude. The two were having breakfast, but for some reason, she noticed that Watts was absent.

“Where is Mr. Watts?”

“Oh, he stepped out for a while. The knights took him to ask some questions about the herbs the herbalists had hidden.”

“I see.”

Sebelia’s eyes widened. She had heard that the knights had been questioning the herbalists with serious expressions. She blinked several times, then finished her meal and headed to the garden.

“……”

On her way to the garden, she passed a few of the mansion’s servants. They were from the Suffredi family, and had been brought in by Licia to turn the previously empty mansion into a place fit for living.

But they had something else in common. There was an inexplicable sneer in their gazes and voices when they looked at Sebelia. A young maid, whom she bumped into, spoke to her.

“You’re up early. The morning breeze is cold, don’t you want to go back inside?”

The words were delivered with a clear tone of mockery, which Sebelia couldn’t understand. She simply stared at her.

“Oh, if you’re waiting for the Duke, you should probably go back. Miss Licia is attending to him personally, after all.”

The woman, smiling with a raised corner of her lips, scanned Sebelia from head to toe while carrying a bundle of laundry. Sebelia felt a sense of déjà vu and narrowed her eyes. She looked exactly like Licia.

“You should know your place, commoner. How dare you.”

The servant whispered lowly as she proudly brushed past Sebelia. It was then that Sebelia realized what was going on.

“Ha.”

Left alone in the hallway, Sebelia burst out laughing. Her shaking head reflected her bewildered mind.

So, this is Licia’s doing.

Such an obvious form of jealousy and mockery. She wasn’t even angry. Sebelia glanced at where the servant had disappeared and then flicked her fingers.

“Eek!”

A small swarm of rats appeared from the far end of the hallway. Gray rats with gleaming red eyes dashed around the servant’s feet, their long tails swishing behind them.

“Get out of the way, get out of the way!”

There was a sound of something being thrown followed by the hurried footsteps of someone running. Sebelia gave a small sigh and waved her hand lightly. The rats, which had been burrowing into the discarded laundry pile, vanished into thin air in an instant.

“I should have just ignored it.”

With an indifferent expression, Sebelia watched the direction the maid had fled, then made her way to the central garden. For some reason, she felt that her personality had become a bit more hostile than before.

Is this okay?

Furrowing her brow, Sebelia soon realized the reason for the change in her demeanor. It was because of Claude and Dehart. Dealing with not one but two stubborn people had made her temper more abrasive.

“When will they be back?”

The corridor leading to the central garden stretched toward the hall, making it easy to see who was coming and going in the mansion. Licia had likely chosen this spot to wait for Dehart for the same reason.

When he returns, I’ll make sure to treat his wounds first…

As Sebelia thought about Dehart, she suddenly stopped walking. The maid’s words lingered in her mind.

[Know your place, commoner.]

Yes, outside the lab, in this place, ‘Bella’ was just an ordinary commoner. She had no wealth or socially recognized skills, just an ordinary woman.

If it were the old me, I wouldn’t have been looked down on in the same situation.

A cold sneer brushed across her lips.

I was the daughter of a family with an impeccable lineage.

She hadn’t chosen to have it, but behind her name always followed the names of families that could not be disregarded. The prestigious Wheddon family from the central region, and the Inverness Duchy, which dominated the north.

Perhaps that’s why, even though Sebelia had been treated as a nuisance and burden at home, no one dared to mistreat her outside.

“It’s strange.”

The shackles that had once confined her had also served as a shield, protecting her from others. Sebelia marveled at the unpleasant contradiction. Of course, she had no intention of expressing gratitude for it.

Feeling a sense of emptiness, Sebelia was about to turn back toward her room when she noticed something.

Beyond the corridor stretching from the garden, the heavy door on the far side of the spacious hall swung open.

A long shadow stretched across the floor of the hall with the backlight, followed by the sound of firm footsteps echoing through the empty corridor.

It was Dehart.
