“Let me give you the medicine first.”

The small and light medicine bottle placed in Sebelia’s hand made her heart stir with a strange emotion.

‘Is this the weight of my life?’

As she shook the bottle, the pills inside collided, making a small noise. To others, it would be nothing more than a small pile of pills, barely enough to notice. But to Sebelia, it was like a key that opened her future.

“Finally…”

Sebelia exhaled a shaky breath and pressed the hand holding the bottle to her forehead. The tension that had been tightening her body relaxed, and her head spun lightly.

“I’m so sorry it’s taken this long.”

“No, no. It wasn’t your fault, Mr. Watts.”

Sebelia vigorously shook her head. Her hair, which had fallen loosely over her shoulder, flowed with the movement.

“Let’s leave the past behind. It’s all over now…”

Overwhelmed with emotion, Sebelia couldn’t continue her sentence. The many twists and turns of the past few days flashed through her mind.

“Ha… Sorry.”

“No need to apologize. I understand completely. If it’s alright, would you like me to make some tea?”

“Yes, the things you need are over there.”

Sebelia pointed weakly to a spot where simple cooking tools made from heated stone slabs for magic were placed. Watts nodded and stood to prepare the water and brew the tea.

As the steam filled the room, Sebelia was able to calm herself. When Watts placed the cup in front of her, she was finally able to return to her usual self.

“Thank you.”

“You’re too kind. This is something I do every day in the lab.”

“That’s true…”

Sebelia smiled faintly and took a sip of the tea. The pleasant fragrance filled her mouth, and the warmth flowed down her throat.

Feeling her body warm up, Sebelia sighed softly. It was then that Watts brought up his second purpose for visiting. The reason he had arrived earlier than expected.

“Now that the medicine is ready, we need to revisit the promise we made before.”

“A promise?”

“The one we made in case we couldn’t find the glass flower in the canyon.”

“Ah.”

Sebelia’s eyes widened as she wrapped her hands around the tea cup. She had followed the out-of-control Claude into the valley, and since then, her mind had been consumed with thoughts of Dehart, making her forget.

“You mean the trade with Lockwood. Yes, that’s right. I had asked you to help secure the glass flower with Mr. Watt’s abilities.”

“To be precise, it wasn’t a request—it was a repayment for my lack of responsibility.”

“You’re too hard on yourself.”

“It makes sense.”

“Let’s leave the past behind, as we agreed, Mr. Watts.”

Sebelia released her grip on the teacup and shook her head gently. After a brief silence, she clasped her hands together and said subtly:

“If it’s alright, may I take a moment to think about the matter?”

“Even with the treatment complete, you still want to bring in the glass flower?”

Watts blinked slowly, taken aback by her unexpected words. Sebelia shook her head lightly and responded.

“That’s not it. It’s just… Hmm. This is the first time I’m saying it directly.”

“Miss Bella?”

“You mentioned that my illness stemmed from my mother. Since then, I’ve often thought there might be relatives from that place. I apologize for bringing this up, but the trade with Lockwood wasn’t just for medicinal herbs.”

“Ah.”

Watts finally understood what Sebelia was getting at. Now that the treatment was complete, the glass flower wasn’t the most important thing for her.

The emphasis in the ‘trade with Lockwood’ had now shifted to Lockwood itself. The land of her mother, whose name she didn’t even know. The land where relatives she had never met could be living.

“Now, the trade is just an excuse, but still… I want to open the door to Lockwood. I want to find any possible family, however unlikely.”

“You want to learn about your mother?”

“Oh, no, that’s not it.”

Sebelia firmly denied Watts’ assumption. Watts’ mouth fell open as he had thought it was due to her longing for her mother. Sebelia smiled softly at his reaction. She knew that he often saw her as more fragile than she was, but in this case, he was mistaken.

“It’s not for sentimental reasons. Above all, I don’t feel the need to search for a mother who never came looking for me. I just want to know how my family lived and how they passed away.”

Sebelia muttered quietly and added in a dry tone:

“As you said, Mr. Watts, family history has a huge impact on illness. I don’t want to face any serious life-threatening danger without being prepared.”

Her gaze drifted from Watts to the side, landing on the nightstand behind him. In the drawer of the nightstand was a letter addressed to Denisa.

“I have to do this, even for the sake of my only family.”
