“Ah.”

When Sebelia came to, hours had passed. She didn’t even know when Dehart had left. She dumped the now-cold tea into the sink and stood there, shaking her head in a daze.

Get a grip.

She only said that to herself when she could not get a hold of her thoughts. Eventually, Sebelia collapsed onto the bed, feeling like she was sinking.

[Just take revenge on me.]

“Such foolish talk.”

That fool of a man. Sebelia cursed at Dehart as she buried her face in the pillow. She had already taken her revenge on him. She had shaken him emotionally, torn at his heart, and made him cry, which allowed her to release her resentment.

Of course, after seeing him completely collapse in front of her yesterday, she had decided to put that plan on hold…

[I’ll help you.]

She still couldn’t believe it. How could he say such things to her? Helping her take revenge on himself? How could he so casually say something so insane?

Even though she couldn’t understand Dehart, when she thought about his shameless proposal, her anger would fade, and the image of him crying and passing out would fill her mind.

Well, I guess it makes sense since he’s mad…

Remembering the bright gleam of his eyes, Sebelia let out a groan. The problem was herself. It was her fault for not letting go of the mad person’s words, and that was the problem.

“Sigh.”

It was all a mess. Sebelia groaned, clutching the pillow. Strangely enough, one of the things that filled her confused mind was this:

Wasn’t what I did a revenge?

The things she had done, thinking they were her form of revenge, didn’t even come across as revenge to him. But still, seeing him cry and apologize meant that it wasn’t without effect.

[No, I’m not enough. Let’s get revenge on everyone who made you suffer.]

Sebelia clenched her jaw as she thought of Dehart, who had demanded revenge with burning eyes. Those words wouldn’t leave her mind. Not just Dehart, but everyone who had tormented her—he had whispered about making them pay.

That was the reason she couldn’t shake off his words, the reason why it had stirred up so much guilt in her heart.

“I still…”

A muffled voice slipped out from between the pillow.

“I couldn’t escape my father’s influence.”

A chill wrapped around her. More than anger, a sense of emptiness first dug into her heart.

Even though I vowed to take revenge on Dehart. That revenge, even if I carried it out, would be so trivial…

Why didn’t she ever think of that against her father? Sebelia thought. It wasn’t about discussing the actual possibility of revenge. She wasn’t frustrated that she couldn’t come up with a plan to bring down Marquis Wheddon, but simply…

“I never even thought of it.”

It was like a child born and raised in a cave who couldn’t even imagine the existence of the sun. Sebelia had never dared to consider seeking revenge against her father.

That thought was so frustrating and filled her with resentment that Sebelia tightened her arms around the pillow. She remained still, curled up on the bed, for quite some time.

* * *

“Ha…!”

A rough gasp of breath escaped his lips. The short exclamation, full of disbelief, echoed loudly in the corridor.

Bang!

Kicking the door open with force, Dehart swept his way through the office, knocking everything off the desk with a loud crash.

“Bella, Bella, Bella…”

No, Sebelia. Dehart, with a cold smile, tugged at his hair and groaned. He couldn’t forget Sebelia’s face, who had been staring at him in confusion. The growling voice poured out over his hand as it gripped the desk.

“You should have cursed and yelled at everyone.”

Rather than opening those soft lips to wound with sharp words, she should have grabbed a knife, slit their throats, and laughed as she poisoned their wine.

Instead of casually talking about responsibility…!

In the dim office, his two eyes gleamed menacingly like lightning.

“You’re an idiot.”

He felt sickened by his own stupidity. Kindness? Consideration? Sebelia wasn’t kind-hearted, offering compassion out of charity. He had been wrong to misunderstand her actions, thinking she was being considerate, when in reality, he was just relying on her flawed sense of responsibility.

“Ha!”

A burning flame swirled in his throat. He wanted to vomit all these heated feelings out, but he knew that would hurt Sebelia too, so he had to swallow the sharp force back inside himself.

This situation was just miserable.

“Goddammit…”

Instead of destroying the estate or setting the trees on fire, the man who decided to crumble himself into pieces buried his face in his hands and swallowed his groans. The sound of crackling flames echoed through the office, but the fire did nothing to illuminate the dark corners.

Crack. The sound of blood vessels on the verge of bursting filled the air, and just as it seemed his eardrums would explode, someone opened the office door and stepped in.

It was Eli’s presence. Dehart moved his eyes slightly between his fingers.

“What’s the matter?”
