Seeing Dehart unexpectedly troubled, Sebelia suddenly realized something. She had forgotten to explain the situation properly earlier because things hadn’t gone well. She tilted her head in thought and caught Claude’s eyes through the slightly ajar door.

“Should I tell him?”

“Do as you wish.”

The teacher and student, now quite familiar, exchanged perfect silent communication. Around that time, Dehart realized he had forcibly dragged Sebelia into the room and turned pale.

“That wasn’t my intention.”

Sebelia gently tapped his hand and reassured him. Now that she thought about it, she had quite a bit to say to him as well.

“Calm down first. I understand your concerns well.”

“Bella…”

“Honestly, thank you for asking. It’s something I had forgotten too.”

Dehart tilted his head, and Sebelia led him into the room, motioning toward the door. Claude quietly closed it behind them. Feeling reassured, Sebelia began her explanation.

“I probably won’t need to take on the form I showed you back then again.”

“Pardon?”

“At that time, I was lucky to have the tools and time to prepare the inversion technique. I doubt I’ll be able to do the same thing twice.”

The talisman of the shaman used to fix the spying illusion. Having used all of those to escape Nelia’s scheme, Sebelia was now unable to perform inversion.

“Inversion is Claude’s specialty, not mine. Actually, I barely succeeded even then. Don’t you remember? Unlike Claude, my physique and voice didn’t change despite the inversion.”

“That’s true. Claude’s voice changes when he’s Karl Appenz.”

Sebelia shrugged, and Dehart frowned as if displeased by something. But what could he do? That was the reality.

“So, one of your worries now solved?”

“Ah… I’m sorry.”

Dehart sighed and rubbed his lips. Sebelia watched quietly, amused by his awkwardness over such a minor issue, and smiled.

“Now, it’s my turn.”

“Huh?”

Dehart’s golden eyes blinked blankly. Sebelia smiled brightly and sat him down. As he looked up at her habitually, Sebelia took something clinking from her bosom.

“You were sleeping while smoking this all night.”

Seeing the silver case with a lingering scent, Dehart let out a low groan. His well-formed fingers rubbed his forehead as heavy eyelids drooped over his eyes.

“Dehart, this is a highly addictive type of awakening incense.”

“…I know.”

His slow answer made Sebelia sigh softly. She looked at him with an expression of not knowing what to do, then put the silver case back in her pocket.

“You’ve already been addicted to a strong d**g once. You should know better than to touch this carelessly.”

Dehart lowered his head in response. Through the hands covering his face, his trembling eyes could be seen. Sebelia spoke firmly.

“I hope this won’t happen again.”

“…”

“I know it’s meddling, but I have to say a few more things. Dehart, this isn’t just about your health. Think a little about Claude, who stayed up all night caring for your sick self.”

Sebelia recalled Claude’s desperate face, pleading with her, as if asking if she knew anything about Dehart’s condition.

What must it have felt like for an uncle to watch his nephew struggle in pain after decades apart? Surely, he must have felt like vomiting blood.

Sebelia looked at him with sad eyes. Dehart, pierced by her gaze, parted his lips, then slowly covered his mouth and turned his head.

“…I’ll try.”

In a rough voice, Dehart promised. His hand, covering half his face, trembled slightly, but Sebelia could see no joy in his words.

“I won’t smoke awakening incense anymore.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

Hearing Dehart’s positive answer, Sebelia relaxed. Her expression was much calmer, she spoke briskly.

“Well then, I’ll be off. Everyone’s waiting.”

“All right.”

Dehart slowly followed her. Sebelia looked back with a puzzled expression at the growing distance between them, but he shook his head as if to say not to worry.

Not now. Not yet…

Watching Sebelia’s long shadow stretch to her feet, he swallowed his accumulating greed. If he stepped one foot closer, he felt he might embrace her without meaning to.

Was she worried for him? Would she allow even a little hope? He felt he might bombard her with foolish questions.

So, for now, this distance was the best he could manage.
