Chapter 225
So Watts had kept his distance, avoiding involvement in the plan against Marquis Wheddon.
But now they suddenly need Watts…
Claude had a rough idea of what had happened, so he didn’t question Eli further. He had seen Sebelia burning with determination the previous evening to investigate the d***s.
“You called for me?”
“Yes. It seems I can no longer leave you alone.”
“Doesn’t matter to me either way.”
With a slightly reluctant expression, Watts followed Claude into the office. There, Sebelia was already waiting.
“You were here first, as expected.”
Claude greeted her warmly. Sebelia, however, seemed oblivious. Seeing her absorbed in thought, he awkwardly scratched his jaw.
“The atmosphere looks serious. Something significant must have happened.”
It seemed more urgent than just the d**g Marquis Wheddon possessed. Claude sat tensely, and Watts took a seat beside him.
“So, what’s going on?”
Claude glanced at Dehart, who still hadn’t acknowledged him. True to character, the nephew hadn’t even greeted his uncle.
“Ah.”
Dehart, nibbling his lips as if he were a culprit, finally turned toward Claude.
“First, promise you won’t overreact.”
“Why the warning?”
After rubbing his face quickly, Dehart explained the facts he had extracted from Roden without exaggeration. Claude, listening, refused to accept them calmly.
“Watts, I think there’s an issue with my hearing. Could you check it later?”
“…Your ears are fine. But if you insist, I can connect you with a psychiatrist in the city.”
Claude realized he could no longer avoid reality in response to Watts’s cold, clinical assessment.
He buried his face in his hands, voice burning with disbelief.
“Gren… that insane woman… how long has she been doing these despicable things?!”
It was unfathomable. If true, what had he been doing all this time?
Claude had never returned to Inverness to prove his innocence after being accused of killing the late Duke. He carried the guilt of having inadvertently endangered his family, but also wanted to protect Dehart.
He wanted Dehart to grow up safely under Gren and Rash’s care and bury the nightmare of that day in darkness forever.
But the reality he trusted had been a carefully crafted lie. Gren had long been deliberately giving Dehart d***s with severe side effects. What she hoped to gain remained unclear—but one thing was certain.
While he was wasting time searching for Rosalyn, Dehart had barely survived amid those who would have killed him.
How dare she commit such vile acts at Hillend Hall… by a family, no less…!
Claude groaned in deep despair and shock. Watts watched him compassionately before turning his attention to Dehart. It seemed Dehart hadn’t been shocked after realizing that his suffering had been caused by Gren.
Did he already know? Or did he, like me, simply ignore reality and calm himself?
But Watts soon realized he was wrong. Dehart’s unwavering gaze and composure weren’t from denial or sheer willpower.
Everything that mattered to him now was Sebelia. His eyes, blazing like the sun, never left her. At that moment, all of his focus, every nerve, seemed devoted to her.
The thick veins on his hands, the tense thighs ready to spring into action—Dehart seemed ready to draw a blade and rush north if ordered to retrieve Gren’s throat for her.
Thus, whatever Gren had done to him, even attempting to kill him, wasn’t the true concern.
What mattered was how Sebelia would react after discovering Gren’s involvement in Marquis Wheddon’s schemes.
As Sebelia realized the chilling truth, she lifted her head. A subtle gesture, yet it was enough. The three men’s eyes, all focused on her like magnets
