A wave of dizziness blurred Sebelia’s vision. Only after enduring a sharp, stabbing pain in her head—like being pierced by an awl—did she begin to register her surroundings.

Her spy illusion had recovered its power.

Leaning against Dehart’s arm, who’d rushed up beside her, Sebelia tried to think clearly.

Should I share senses now?

She only had one chance left. Sebelia ran through her options quickly.

No. It’d be a waste to use it now.

Besides, every time she shared senses, it inevitably left her completely exhausted. It had taken her ages just to recover enough to attend the banquet; if she collapsed here and now…

“We should cancel going to the banquet.”

Of course. She’d known he’d say that.

As if he doesn’t know how important this banquet is.

Tonight’s banquet was the perfect opportunity to observe all the major factions of the Empire—including the First Queen’s faction—all gathered in one place.

And with the Marquisate Wheddon’s spectacular downfall, there was a good chance fractures were forming within their alliance. Sebelia absolutely had to attend, if only for the intelligence she could gather.

“Come inside and rest, Sebelia. I’ll call the doctor.”

Of course he knew all this. But in the end, his concern for her always came first. Sebelia suppressed a sigh and lifted her head. Dehart’s golden eyes were crinkled in worry as he looked down at her.

“It was just the bright sunlight dazzled me for a moment, that’s all.”

“People don’t clutch their heads and nearly faint from a bit of sunlight.”

His muttered words were heavy with self-reproach. Surprised by the pain in his voice, Sebelia’s eyes widened.

Before she could reply, Dehart sighed deeply, resignation written all over his face.

“Sigh… No matter how unwell you feel, I suppose resting at home was never an option.”

“Dehart, you know just as well as I do—this is not something I can miss.”

“…Fine. Wait here for a moment. I’ll go get the doctor and at least pick up some medicine. You’ll let me do that much, won’t you?”

“You make it sound like I’m always so stubborn.”

Unfazed by his complaint, Sebelia watched as Dehart shook his head in exasperation and headed back into the estate. She leaned quietly against the door, watching his retreating figure.

Fortunately, the dizziness was only temporary. Feeling the faint thread still connecting her to her spy illusion, Sebelia steadied her breath.

“Whew.”

The sky was slowly being painted red by the setting sun. Sebelia, gazing at the spreading dusk, lowered her eyes.

She caught sight of the uniformed guards gathered around the carriage, and a subtle unease flickered across her face.

“Have you been waiting long?”

Just as Sebelia was beginning to sense something amiss, Dehart reappeared with perfect timing. His golden eyes were filled with concern, clearly worried she might have collapsed during his brief absence.

“Just in case, take this first.”

At themes like these, he was always so by-the-book. Sebelia set aside her earlier unease and accepted the medicine Dehart handed her. He only relaxed when she’d swallowed every last drop.

Sebelia looked at him helplessly, letting out a soft sigh as she reached for his hand.

“Come on, let’s get going or we’ll be late.”

“……!”

Dehart couldn’t say a word as she led him down the steps. Heat spread from their joined hands, surging up to his cheeks and winding through his whole body.

Even once they were in the carriage, he couldn’t bring himself to look at her. All he could think about was whether she would notice how red he’d become.

Carriages bound for the palace formed a grand procession through the city streets. In his estate’s highest tower, Silas watched the scene through his study window, his gaze blazing.

“Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.”

The words left his lips with a sneer. His teeth ground together in irritation.

The Emperor had, in fact, sent an invitation to the Wheddon family as well. Silas had refused, purely by his own will. Nelia had thrown a tantrum and wept, but there was no helping it.

For now, I’ll just have to lay low.

Losing Nathan was a painful blow. But there was no use lamenting what had already been lost. One way or another, Silas was determined to get his hands on Sebelia.

He no longer cared if his methods became more extreme.

The sorcerers have already handed over a secret technique. As long as she’s still breathing, I can use her one way or another.

And honestly, after all the effort he’d put in, he needed to salvage something. In all his life, he’d never felt so thoroughly robbed.

“Damn it all…”

He turned sharply, then noticed the letter sitting on his desk. He remembered now—he’d received it yesterday but hadn’t bothered to open it, not wanting to deal with it at the time.

“A nuisance from every direction.”

A pale green envelope with no sender. Three stars stamped in the corner. This was unmistakably a letter delivered through the underworld from Gren.
